you come home from work to see simon on the sofa with your daughter on his chest, content in laying on his soft muscle, with his hands holding her so she doesn’t tip sideways and hurt herself.

you pause in the doorway, he’s so gentle with her, with his hands that he never thought could do anything but hurt. and now he holds his daughter in his arms, content in letting her just sit. let her be.

the memories of his own father haunt him, the worry that he won’t be good enough for her. he is so afraid of becoming his own father that he actually became detached when you told him you were pregnant.
