More Route 66 Sights: Catoosa’s Blue Whale and a Derelict Ark
In February Neal and I traveled to Oklahoma for his mother’s birthday. It was cold - one of the first things we did was buy boots so we wouldn’t slide around on pavement!
For years, I’d been wanting to see the famous Blue Whale of Catoosa on Route 66. Built in the 1970s by Hugh Davis, it became a popular swimming hole and picnic area. Davis then added the A.R.K. (Animal Reptile Kingdom) next door.
By 1988 the attractions closed, and over time fell into disrepair. A decade later, citizens of Catoosa and Hampton Inn employees raised funds to restore the Blue Whale.
The remains of the A.R.K. are right next door. I hadn’t known about the A.R.K. until we visited. I was excited to “discover” it!
Here are my photos of these roadside attractions.

Abandoned animal enclosure.
An old hand-shaped directional sign.
Mushrooms on the grounds of the old A.R.K. attraction.

Across the street from the Blue Whale and the A.R.K. is a reminder of changing times: an old tourist Trading Post, closed and ready to make way for something new.

A.R.K. – NOT COOL (VIDEO) A.R.K. is the acronym for DC-based hip-hop crew Noyeek the Grizzly Bear, Theory, and Dimensions. The group takes it's title from their government names.

Yeah! Headless Chicken
everyone's expecting me to be someone else
if everyone wants me to do something for myself
but in the end of the night
I'm walking by myself
"have you seen a headless gutted out meat on the side of the street?"
I bet not
or maybe
so when the words won't come near my mind
I'm trying hard just to be in line,
I thank you for for being there for me
for picking me up
when I faaaaallllllllll....
yeah..
always be grateful..
yeahvlasdvlansdlvna;sdvn;asndvasd
and now a little misquoted crap
sometimes I shout fuck you and smash plates mugs and guitars ...but lately I try to write some shitty acoustic kinda pop punk demo songs about senseless antics and revelations -in which they don't really show that much credibility in delivering happy vibes albeit some of the shallow words I try to write.(and they as in the somewhat relevant but not really issues I'm trying to deal with about myself.) but wtfh right, english is my second language.I don't expect you to understand my shit either. oh and this song is about my family and friends who stick with you no matter what. thanks ya all xo - ARK
