Done with my Reinhard Heydrich biography. I liked it enough but reading about the Holocaust drains me.

#reading this was a reminder of why I didn’t go farther with genocide studies #I also said I wouldn’t read anymore biographies for a while #but now I’m gonna start The Romanovs #a reread #but I feel like I’ll appreciate it more the 2nd time around

Dangerverse, Chapter Eleven

Oh, hello Dumbledore. What a great introduction to him in this fic. Trying to control things, a bit pedantic, very well-meaning, and completely out of his depth = ) I’m not a dumby hating fan, but he does not hold the same place in my heart he once did. I had to grow up. DV Dumbledore is wonderful, though.

Couple things though: the Dursley’s treatment of Harry was terrible because he was a child, and a human person, and a living, breathing, feeling being. It doesn’t matter that they “didn’t know” how he meant to the wizards, or to you in particular. He mattered. Second thing: I’ve never before noticed that Petunia says “I never did find out how it happened” about Danger’s parents. As if the important bit is Petunia herself ferreting out the latest gossip. Ugh.

Finally, Dudley crying while the house is a mess reminds me pretty forcefully of Rabbie Weedon from A Casual Vacancy. I know there is nothing to it, because I doubt JKR has read Living with Danger, and this was written far before that book, but it’s interesting to me all the same.
