My issue with the whole Omar thing is that the video in question was released years ago when he was already famous. It’s not like it’s just emerged. How many thousand people watched it at the time and accepted it, but someone has purposely searched for it now as a way to “cancel” him and basically just use it as an excuse for hate to be sent to him. They didn’t actually care about what it was, just that it was something that could be used against him.
Obviously it was wrong, and there are people who have been hurt by it and no one has the right to tell them to feel any other way and he has apologised for it now (but I know that’s not for me to accept). I think we can have both an issue with what he did (but still support him, as long as he’s shown that he is sorry for it, and has grown/matured) and also have a major issue with the reason it’s been brought up.
And that’s probably all I’m saying on it, because there’s a reason we keep calling tumblr better than Twitter and it’s because we try to keep the yr fandom toxic free.
