From Gladiator to Knight Chapter 2 A Cave

Claire and Jamie

Claire

I wake again, wet and cold, with Uncle Lamb on my mind. There is something but..first Jamie and the others. And why am I wet? I move forward and feel a hand on my leg. Jamie's! I look down and see he is in water too. And more asleep then awake..

"Jamie!" I call out. He startles awake.

Jamie

I dream of water. And cold. It isn't until Claire calls my name, fully waking me that I realize that I am cold and wet.

"We must move farther in. I believe we are in a cave. The rain is flooding the front. We need to get farther back." She says as she reaches down to help me up. I look around and see she is right.

"Pollux and Tianba?"

"I think they are farther back. We need to find them."

Claire

We find them, both asleep on the cold rock. That will not do. They need up.

"I will get Tianna. You get Pollux." He nods and turns to do it.

Jamie

I lift Pollux up. He wakes long enough to get to his feet before laying his head back on my shoulder and fallen back to sleep. I see Tianna had done the same with Claire.

"We must get these two married so no questions are asked." Claire says.

"Aye," I then grunt under the settling weight of Pollux. I hear my wife giggle.

"Do you ken where we are?"

"Maybe."

Claire

"I can't be sure until the sun raises. But, it has a familiar feel. I think Uncle Lamb took me here as a child."

"The sun should be up soon. Let's rest." I agree and lean against the stone wall. I watch the water come in and drift off. The next thing I remember is a set of footsteps. I think, Jamie is here. We are safe." Before drifting back off.

Jamie.

I sleep leaning against the wall with Pollux. I dinna dream of water or cold. Just blackness. A set of footsteps wakes me. My eyes pop open.

"Who is there?"

had a pretty nice + constructive chat w/ my mum the other day actually - she brought up how impressed she was with my independent payments for the wedding bc she said she expected to be asked for money every week but actually we (i, really - ben wouldn't dare lol) have only asked once so far so i was like haha (nervous laughter) thank you but we will definitely need some help in august and she said that by that time granddad's will should have cleared through all the legal hoops anyway (altho honestly like... even without that she'd be fine but i get what she's saying)

re: the will money i said to her that i assumed it wouldnt change my life much bc im a generation removed from the sudden wealth + she was like well granddad would have wanted it to change all of our lives :) and then she sort of asked me if i had any long term plans + i was like well id love to buy a small rural bolthole in wales/scotland - a studio or a 1 bedroom - and she was actually REALLY enthused by this dea and pledged to help us financially if we wanted to do that at some point (obviously the wedding takes precedence + then me and ben want to go to iceland on our honeymoon in 2024 but uh after that) i don't want to move out, i like living with both ben AND ana, but i am v aware that i dont actually own any of this house and should things go tits up id have little recourse to fix things. altho to be clear i don't think anyone anticipates it going wrong - but you know

if me + ben did buy a property somewhere rural i kind of envision it could be something familial like id be happy to let my sister/friends/parents/etc stay there too. like a personal airbnb. this does sound very landlordy tho :( also im unsure how much ben wants to be involved, historically he's been v nervous about the idea bc of how much of a money pit the whole idea could potentially be but yesterday i brought it up again and he was keener. anyway i dont mind doing it alone IN THEORY but yeah that would be a massive massive commitment to do without any benhelp innit
