Trinity Taylor wants an abc family sitcom too!!
some thoughts on 9021-HO:
That first bit was....so weird but I loved it. That fucking dramatic music juxtaposed with scenes of Shea voguing and Trinity’s ass and Valentina screaming as Trinity tries to get the black censor bar off her chest was so fucking hilarious to me. Honestly, it was wacky editing at its finest
So my initial prediction was that either Shea or Val would win the challenge, and that we would finally get a Nina vs. Aja lip sync (which I thought was gonna be last episode tbh)
So we’re finally getting a real acting challenge after sending 5 queens home, so I guess this makes it very different from other seasons! I think the whole format of this season’s challenges feels very different, and I like it.
Aja’s edit was.....super shady throughout the season (from the slideshow of touched-up images to the weird fake rivalry with Valentina that never really went anywhere), and now it’s finished off with Aja complaining about a part they don’t want, and then Shea willingly switching with them (and then subsequently placing high in the challenge). Honestly, I thought Aja was gonna do so much better in the competition than this, but apparently not.
I question some of the concepts of this acting challenge. Like, it was supposed to be 90s themed and yet I didn't get a lot of 90s feels except for the sitcom references. Ive seen many a 90s sitcom, and I really wasn't feeling the 90s nostalgia in any of this.
I actually couldn’t clearly guess the winner from what the showed leading up to the critiques: I just knew that Trin, Val, and Shea would be the tops because they got mostly positive comments from the guest judges on their parts.
Needless to say, I was surprised that Trinity got her second win from this challenge. I’m really glad Trinity is doing so well on the show, as I originally thought she was gonna be an early-out. It’s so cool that she’s a pageant queen that can sew, do comedy, and not take herself extremely seriously like some of the other straight-up pageant queens that have been on the show before. Trinity is definitely in my top 4 at this point in the competition.
The runway tonight was actually not bad. It was a solid concept that I’m sure a lot of queens can easily prepare for & allows for many different interpretations. I loved that Sasha’s look was very punk and unexpected, while I think the looks from everyone else were very on-brand for them.
Side note: I remember seeing Valentina’s lily pad outfit in the previews and thought she would be lip synching, so I’m glad that it turned out she was in the top while wearing it. I thought the bundles of on her shoulders were, like, shoulder pads or something at first.
I’m so happy we *FINALLY* (get it? haha because that’s the song this week) got our Nina vs Aja lip sync, and that Nina was right when she said she would be sending home a fan favorite. I thought that they were both very similar performance-wise, just with different gimmicks (Nina doing a duck-walk and titty-shaking while Aja did an impossible looking jump split from a round-off). I thought it was an impressive lip-sync. Actually, I’m very surprised this season because we’ve gotten so many strong lip sync performances (even if a lot of the performances themselves turned out to be very one-sided in terms of results).
I think this lip sync could’ve gone either way, but I’m glad they kept Nina....she definitely has more to give in this competition than Aja (who at least gave us the iconic “Linda Evangelista” rant, which I probably won’t stop quoting anytime soon!)
For next week, the Roast: I’ll be damned if Farrah isn't sent home next week. The winner will be hard to predict, I think it’ll be Nina or Shea, or maybe Peppermint or Sasha will surprise us & turn out an unexpectedly hilarious set of jokes. I’m also hoping the format of the Roast is different than the one on S5, but I’ll just wait and see.
This isn't Rupaul's I'm always getting the role I want race!
