BMW Motorsport tried to fit the M73 block, a 5.4-litre V12 found in the 7 Series 750i (E38) and 8 Series 850Ci (E31) of the time. It was not a particularly sporty engine, and it hardly differed from the 3.2 that the Z3 M had. It produced just 5 hp more: from 321 to 326. There was much more difference in torque: 490 Nm at 3,900 rpm, which made the which exceeded with you grow previous 236 Nm at 3,250 rpm.
