Call back to the time that I was a third grader and had to wear and eyepatch because the painful stye I had was supposedly making kids uncomfortable and the way it was handled made me feel like I was the problem even though I had no control over the fucking stye. I knew it looked gross. I knew it looked ugly. I’d had surgery on my eye at four years old to remove a crust that was growing under my eyelid. I knew I looked gross. You didn’t have to make me feel like an outcast.
