somethimg i really dislike is when ‘leftists’ argue that billionaires who spend exorbitant amounts of money of something frivolous could have spent it on a better cause (ie ending world hunger or fixing housing) because these are not issues that you can just throw money at they are symptons of capitalism’s success (the same success that allows them to be billionaires) and the only substantial change requires proletarian action against the same billionaires they think will save them
where would you say you started the journey into developing your current philosophy (i.e. what works in particular influenced you the most) sorry if this is too personal of a question i'm just curious.. and nosy
definitely being a marxist from a young age (reading the communist manifesto at 12) laid the foundations for most of my philosophy. i can't think of a comprehensive reading list but below i'll list a bunch of people to check out (also i get that reading can suck/be hard, look out for lectures online)
i do have a problem with postmodernism/the new left so while i have read edward said, lacan/derrida/foucult/that gang, etc because how it fundamentally rejects historical materialism/any real class analysis, they are important to read in understanding 'radical liberalism' and how it obstructs revolution. i don't consider deleuze to be a postmodernist because of how imminent his ideas were (i do have a few bones to pick with his writings of dialectics) but anti oedipus was really important in rejecting freud. also on the rejecting frued, guy hocquenghem applies deleuzian ideas like desiring production to queerness
besides the classics like marx, hegel, plato, i would also recommend plotinus (henology), as well as revolutionary writers like lenin, mao, stalin, guevara, etc
guy debord, vivek chibber, slavoj zizek, and mark fisher are all more pessimistic reads but equally important imo, although mark fisher isn't as groundbreaking as a lot of people claim.
