the hardest part about the world championships being in toronto was that it wasn’t montreal, and dax couldn’t justify flying safiya that far out with him, not when the team could be eliminated in a blink of an eye. so, once they qualified for the finals, he had a five day break to fly back to new york to see her, to come home and just breathe. and that’s how he found himself in a coffee shop on barely any sleep after a long ass flight. his eyes were glued to the television screen, just chewing his lip. “i wish sweden won,” he said quietly, watching the game recap play out again. then, he froze and looked behind him, eyes widening a bit. “merde,” he hissed, stepping backwards. “i, just, i cut you, didn’t i? i’m just... out of it, i’m sorry.”
