Latest release: You Bury Me (EP, January 2015)
Upcoming shows: May 5th, 2015 - Swervedriver, Gateway Drugs, PINE. Zaphods. 9pm.
SA: How did PINE first get off the ground? How did you get your start as a band? DD: PINE first started getting off the ground playing acoustic shows. When we became a full band things really started kicking in when we were about a month and a half old and we were already in the studio, as well as had played our first show (house show) in my dining room as a five piece.
SA: What bands, musicians or artists would you cite as the biggest influences on your sound? DD: I guess bands along the lines of Lydia, Balance and Composure, Brand New, and Now, now.
SA: Until now, what would you consider to be your biggest success? DD: Biggest success being booking our entire tour on our own and surviving it, hahahaha.
SA: On the other hand, what is the biggest challenge you have faced, and how have you dealt with it? DD: There's challenges everyday in being in a band, its all about keeping your chin up and not getting discouraged.
SA: How do you approach the song-writing process? DD: The song writing process is always different. Normally I have a bunch of lyrics written stored away and one of the guys ends up showing an idea and we all play around with it.
SA: What are your thoughts on the Ottawa music scene? DD: The Ottawa music scene is always growing, there's so much potential and the support is greater every day.
SA: In February, you completed a tour of Ontario/Quebec. How did the tour go, and what are your favourite shows or memories from the tour? DD: LOTS of memories, and lots of great people who let us stay in their homes. The tour went amazing, some of my favourite shows were the house shows (Brampton, North Bay). There was this guy in North Bay who bought us all Chinese food, which was amazing.
SA: You guys are playing with Hawthorne Heights on April 16th. Are you guys fans of the band? Or mainly just excited to be playing their Silence in Black and White Tenth Year Anniversary show? DD: A bit of both! We are very excited.
SA: You have also been featured on a few recent compilations out of Arizona and Indiana. How did that come about, and have many new fans been discovering your music through those releases? DD: We've had many new fans due to these compilations! It's wonderful. It all came about because a friend from Ohio added us to this group on Facebook called "Non-Denominational Emo" which is filled with a bunch of supportive people.
SA: What comes next for PINE, in what has already been a busy 2015? Good luck with everything guys! DD: We have a lot coming up between now and the fall. We're going to be writing some new material, and hopefully touring a whole lot. Looking forward to it. Thanks so much!
