Who’s next guys
OH WAIT IS MY 600TH POST
The Dragon Prince
Thoughts part 3 (contains spoilers)
HAH!! Callum did the Boromir “One does not simply” meme! With the hand motion and everything!!!
How much you wanna bet it’s not even a real dragon—oh. Oh, yes it is.
Or at least has a dragon shape
Yup. Dragon.
Waaay to go, pretty boy, you made it mad
Ahhh, there’s that Gren moment about being “chained up” that I saw in a meme that made me really want to see this show XD
Claudia is once again far too cheerful for how dark she’s talking
Caalllluuuum I feel like using dark magic is a really, really bad idea for your long term health
oh my gOSH CLAUDIA HAS TO CHOOSE
YEEEEAAAAAAAAH take THAT Viren! At least Claudia’s still half a decent person!!
Ohhhh noooo pretty boy’s hurt real bad
Ah, so it’s an organic walkie talkie earpiece (pun not originally intended but good enough to keep)
Yeah chain dude! Corvus, his name is Corvus. Sweet.
Ohhhh no, Ezran’s about to have a very bad day
Poor baby, aw man, that’s so rough
Virden, you’re so good at being creepy
Heehee classic library lady :D
Soren… honeeeeey…. ohhh this hurts. So glad Claudia is there with him
jkadnvjaivboweihfwiENFAADFADKENF king dude that was the single best entrance you could have ever made. It’s in a dream, but still
Corvus is so dramatic XD love him <3
oh my Lanta, Soren’s haiku XD
Ahhh, but Claudia’s gonna go find the dragon’s horn thing, right?
Have I mentioned that I love the blind pirate and his parrot? Because I love them
Also, that’s such peak dream logic. Well done folks
Oh man, Corvus doesn’t know that Ezran can talk to animals does he haha
Pffft his face when Rayla tells him XD
This show does so well with little moments of grief. Like sometimes it just hits you harder than others, especially in the beginning
Qué?? Sky arcanum? …okay.
Claudia… please don’t hurt the deer…
She hurt the deer :(
Aaaand there’s Viren’s creepy face again…
AHA, I knew Zym and Ezran were super weirdly connected!
Corvus, you’re a dear <3
Awwww, Soren got his poetry moment XD
Okay, Ezran, that was an entrance. Well done, kiddo :D

Drumming Katydid - Meconema thalassinum
To all fellow insect enthusiasts, this blog has reached another milestone! While admittedly things have slowed down a bit, biweekly uploads have continued steadily, and with today’s showcase, we’ve hit 600 posts! With 100 new posts, many new insects have been examined and old favorites have been explored further. Several Beetle posts have taken off in views, the video catalogue has seen brilliant footage and I’ve gotten the chance to share (and recommend) the resources and guidebooks that I use to share insect photography with you. Ultimately that’s what it’s all about and what I hope it continues to be about: sharing insect photography with all of you! To all my followers, all readers of this blog, and all those who’ve helped contribute to make the blog what it is today, I thank you for everything! I appreciate each and every one of you, wherever you are! Hope you continue to enjoy the bugs. For post number 600 we take a brief, but closer look at a familiar Orthopteran with a stripe running down the dorsal side. Compared to the previous female specimen to grace the blog, this one is fully grown and seemingly prefers to get around using modern transportation! This individual was discovered immediately after exiting our car when arriving at Wasaga Beach (and was placed in nearby foliage under photography).
As the blade-like ovipositor will reveal, this Drumming Katydid is a female (males have the curved cerci) and is confirmed to be fully grown from the presence of her wings. Fully emerged from the wingbuds, she may use them to control her jumps and she’ll definitely use them to blend into the leaves of trees and bushes. Looking at them up close, the resemblance to a leaf is uncanny which is a prominent feature of the iconic Katydids. After securing a mate, she can use her blade to place eggs behind bark and other crevices such as in pavement cracks so that young Katydids will appear next year. Location to find a nesting site can be a challenge, so insects need to make use of the world around them and sometimes that means securing a transport. Pseudoscorpions grab onto flying insects, Mites ride on the backs of Beetles, some Blister Beetle larvae grab a ride on Bees, and it appears this Katydid jumped on the car at some point. Along with making incredible travel time with minimal energy lost, human-made transports and provide a lot of travel distance and allow insects to settle in new locations. Even across continents! After all, human activity and transport of goods has brought many insects across borders and seas whereby they can establish themselves if conditions are ideal. Even the Drumming Katydid is increasing its range across North America after being introduced here from Europe! Hitching a ride on the car may have only granted it a few meters of travel distance, but in her new territory, our Katydid friend may find new opportunities not present before. She’ll just need to stay on the green and avoid the sand dunes north of her as her camouflage will be ineffective and seagulls are abundant!
Pictures were taken on August 27, 2022 in Wasaga with a Google Pixel 4. Thank you all for 600 posts!
