One very important lesson we learned during our family therapy sessions five years ago was to not compromise, or play the game of "I will do this if you do that." We do something because it's the right thing to do, and not because we expect the person to do the same or do something in return. We take care of own sobriety and recovery even when the other is not looking because it's the right thing to do. 5 years ago I woke up and decided I was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. I stepped off of my very comfortable and well worn path of the party girl and decided to try something new. At first it was SO scary, life felt uncertain... after all this was a very different path than I had ever been down before and way out of my comfort zone! Would people like me? Would I like myself? How would I ever have fun again? I took a deep breath and stepped off the cliff and never looked back... (except to own some shit that really needed owning.) Every day I wake up and am reminded that I'm a freaking supernova💥, that I've got this and am grateful that I chose living and loving over disconnecting and numbing. It is the best gift I could have ever given myself, my family and my friends.
