Summary:

The second wave, they flooded the Earth and only the lucky survived. The third wave, they sent a plague to pick off the humans one by one. The fourth wave, you can’t trust that your friends are still your friends, trust no one. The 5th wave? No one knows, but it’s coming.

My thoughts:

The series kicked off with an explosive and exciting start. I wanted Cassie to win, I wanted her to thrive in her hostile environment. I really, really enjoyed the first book and I couldn’t wait for the second one! The first book was action packed, with great character development and plot twists. I couldn’t believe how carefully thought out the plot was and how connected to some of the characters I felt. The excitement for the second book was unbelievable!

When I finally got my greedy hands on that book, it was honestly a letdown. I had set a time to sit down and smash it out, because I thought it was going to be as unputdownable as the first one. When I started reading, I could hardly remember the characters ever acting or thinking the way they did. It was like I was meeting new characters and I didn’t like them. At all.  I can’t even remember specific events throughout the book, and I usually remember everything! It was uneventful, and when there was action, it was so… bland. I knew what was going to happen even before the characters did, and that is never a good sign. The book became predictable, the characters setting into a pattern of bad decision making.

In my opinion, the third book was much, much worse. I would 100% recommend the first book, the others… not so much. The characters did dumb stuff, said stupid stuff and acted like they don’t even remember what’s going on around them. Cassie became almost unbearable, and at many stages throughout reading the book, I almost stopped. Too much was introduced at once or there was nothing introduced at all. With all that said, Rick Yancey’s writing is great, and I believe the first book was too hard to follow up.
