Mumbai: India’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior has secured cumulative investment commitments worth ₹5,500 crore.

During the second Investors’ Meet held in Mumbai, leading global firms submitted fresh investment proposals totaling ₹2,000 crore. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav jointly chaired the event. Consequently, these new commitments will generate nearly 4,000 additional jobs, elevating total projected employment creation to over 18,000.

First-of-its-Kind Integrated Telecom Ecosystem

Significantly, the project builds on the initial ₹3,500 crore proposals announced during the inaugural Delhi roundtable. However, the government aims to attract cumulative investments exceeding ₹10,000 crore into the zone.

Minister Scindia emphasized that India must transition from a services-led model to a product-led economy. Therefore, the 170-acre plug-and-play cluster brings together the complete value chain. This unified ecosystem integrates research, component manufacturing, equipment testing, semiconductors, and optical fibre production under one roof.

Global Tech Giants and Operators Back Initiative

Crucially, major multinational technology leaders expressed strong interest in establishing global service support and R&D centres within the cluster.

Furthermore, India’s primary telecom service providers—Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea—pledged to encourage their global vendor networks to locate manufacturing units inside the zone.

During the strategic sessions, Minister Scindia also invited international investors to participate in the upcoming India Mobile Congress 2026, scheduled for October 7–10 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. Ultimately, this Centre-State partnership positions Gwalior as a cornerstone for Aatmanirbhar Bharat in next-generation communications technology.
