Bouhired was an Algerian militant/freedom fighter against french colonization and oppression, she was arrested, tortured, and r*ped by the french military in 1957 for her work and dedication for Algerian freedom. She’s the definition of Algerian strength and determination and serves as a role model to all women living under colonization

She knew statistics weren't destiny Statistically, her lifespan is about 58 years Currently, she is 25

She'd muse on this, clearly

It was either a depressing fact Or, as she'd presume, a neutral fact That she had approximately

33 years remaining (statistically speaking)

Would she die at about 58? Or would she survive beyond 58?

She wouldn't know She can only muse on mortality Especially her own

But she can't predict it (besides what the potential cause would be)

She wouldn't know that Until she reached those ages Or lived passed them

Still, it gave her something to think about

She knew she was fated to die And, thus, she 'd wait until Death came for her She just wouldn't know when

She'd have another premature midlife crisis—certainly However, the fact was a fact (no matter how "depressing" or "neutral")

Most would mourn the idea While she would accept it, as why not? Statistics are the shadows of things that may be

And, such, they are not destiny

Statistically, she's expected to live to 58 The tail end of middle-age, approximately 33 years remaining Counting off from 25 years old

In the current year, she'd be 26 Thus, she had 32 years left

Would be she another of the statistic? Or would she be a defiance of it? She'd never know

All she knew is that Her lifespan is expected to be shorter And so she'd exist with little promise of tomorrow
