Instead of addressing the role of poor housing conditions, disrupted families, underfunded school systems, lack of access to mental health care services, and opportunities for upward mobility play in perpetuating violence, the public keeps investing in policing, ignoring the harm policing causes within the Black community, and how ineffective they are at preventing or solving violent crimes. While the investigation into the Louisiana State Police’s pattern and practices is refreshing, it also makes Louisiana State Police wholly unqualified to investigate Rapides Parish Sherrif’s Department - there’s a clear conflict of interest. allison wiltz
