like quinn did love vancouver but I don't think he ever appreciated the fans being up in his business, infact the whole fan aspect was very less for him despite being a well loved captain during his time with a lot of support, he despises showing vulnerability on camera, is happy to play the role of a picture perfect son/brother/captain/teammate without talking about how he's actually doing, he never wants to let anyone know him in any capacity be it his favourite songs, movies, tv shows, he refuses to consider hypotheticals, he told jack to remove all vulnerability from his post injury post, he tries to get ahead of the media all the time all the while never giving them an inch about himself, he can be quite cynical when it comes to the business side of hockey........stark contrast with how he is with his brothers/friends when they forget there's no cameras

did jack pick up all his habits of visibly drawing a wall around himself because his whole life people not related to him have wanted him vulnerable, like growing up with all these expectations on him, surrounded by sooo many people who said they wanted the best for him but really they just wanted the best for themselves without considering any effects on him etc etc, every small mistake meant the media hounding him, his rookie season is out there for everyone to see and how the media circled him like vultures + quinn's known vocal dislike of how the media have treated his brother

hello anon I'm so sorry I let you sit in the inbox for almost a week. it was bad form. to be fair I have been coming back to this periodically to think about my answer. I think the fact that they are a bit sensitive about media is interesting. though I'm not sure it's actually the same mentality for both of them, I think you're right that it's a a lot of shared habits that jack's learnt from quinn.

with a heavy caveat that I don't know a lot about quinn's time in vancouver and what was expected of him, I would speculate that a lot of his uncomfortability with attention is how awkward he is. I mean I'm sure he relaxes around friends but in terms of what we know about him. factually. he's just not really a people person. the more he has something to fall back on - i.e. defending jack or being nice about minnesota (a particular character, basically), the better he seems to deal with it. so I am a little inclined to think it's discomfort rather than dislike, if that makes sense.

jack is so interesting to compare because, like you mentioned, we know why he hates media. and rather than not expressing himself well, he can express himself perfectly clearly he just choses to dodge the question or be a bitch about it because he's in a situation he doesn't like.

I think it's all interconnected though. and jack's deeper habit of having an insular little circle of friends and family who all adore him is absolutely (in my mind) the result of growing up with quinn, but maybe not in the sense that it's learned from quinn, but rather that's the model of his and quinn (and luke's) relationship (bc of how they grew up) and he now recreates it wherever he can.
