VERSE OF THE DAY:
JOHN 16:20
Truly, truly I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.
GRIEF INTO JOY
These words, spoken by Jesus nearly 2,000 years ago, have been a lifeline for countless people facing sorrow. Today, let’s think about the first ones who clung to them: his disciples.
Jesus spoke these words on Thursday of Holy Week in the Upper Room. By Friday, he was crucified, and the world rejoiced in his death. Then came Saturday—a day of grief, confusion, and silence.
Perhaps the disciples were back in that same Upper Room, their tears breaking the quiet. Did the words from Thursday echo in their hearts? “You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.”
Did they dare believe it?
When Jesus said this, he wasn’t offering wishful thinking. He was declaring a truth written across the story of God’s people. From Abraham’s journey to Israel’s exodus, God had always turned grief into joy. It took time. It often involved loss. And it was always wrapped in mystery. But God was faithful.
If today feels like “Saturday” for you—a day of waiting, mourning, or uncertainty—know this: “You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.”
Cling to this promise. It is true because of the One who spoke it and the empty tomb that followed.
Your joy is coming. Hold on with hope, because God is still turning mourning into dancing, sorrow into singing, and grief into joy.
SHARE YOUR FAITH
If your grieving… if you're confused…if you're feeling hopeless…if you're waiting for your joy to arrive…you're not alone. Invite someone to join you as you pray.
God, thank You for Your promise to turn my grief into joy. In times of sorrow and uncertainty, help me trust in Your faithfulness and cling to Your hope. Strengthen my heart to wait on You, knowing joy is coming because of Jesus and the empty tomb. Thank You for Your love. Amen.
God, You gave me breath and continue to sustain my life. I am humbled that You would care enough to help me. Please continue to defend my life as I resolve to follow You. In Jesu' name, Amen.
James 1:2-4
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have it's full effect, that You may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
Where could you use God's joy today?
JOHN 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life
Consider some of the ways God has shown His love to you, and thank God for His selflessness.
DAILY BIBLE READING:
2 SAMUEL 6-8
LUKE 15:1-10
THE ARK BROUGHT TO JERUSALEM
David gathered the chosen men to bring up the ark of God, called by the name of the Lord of hosts, brought it to Aminadab's house.
UZZAH AND TH ARK
They celebrated before the Lord with songs and various instruments. Uzzah touched the ark because the oxen stumbled. God struck him. David was unwilling to take the ark of the Lord in his city so it remained in Obed-edom for 3 months and the Lord blessed him and his household. David learned about it so he went and brought the ark of the Lord to his city with rejoicing. Every six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened animal. David danced before the Lord with all his might wearing a linen ephod, shouting with the sound of the horn.
DAVID AND MICHAL
Michal looked out the window and saw David and she despised him in her heart. David offered burnt and peace offerings before the Lord then blessed the people in the name of the Lord, distributed food then they departed. Michal met David and shamed David but he replied: "It was before the Lord, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me as prince over Israel, the people of the Lord, and I will celebrate before the Lord. I will make myself more contemptible than this, and I will be abased in your eyes. But by the female servants of whom you have spoken, by them I shall be held in honor." And Michal had no child to the day of her death.
THE LORD'S COVENANT WITH DAVID
David was at rest in his house. David said to prophet Nathan: "See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the God dwells in a tent." So Nathan said to David: "Go, do that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you." But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan: "Would you build me a house to dwell in? In all places, I have moved with all people of Israel in a tent for my dwelling. Tell David this: When your days are fulfilled, and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with a rod of men, with stripes of the sons of men, but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever."
DAVID'S PRAYER OF GRATITUDE
"Who am I, O Lord God and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? and yet this was a small thing in your eyes, O Lord God. This is instruction for mankind, You know your servant O Lord God, because of you promise, and according to your own heart, you have brought about all this greatness, to make your servant know it. There is none like you, no God besides you. Israel, the only nation on earth whom God went to redeem to be his people, making himself a name and doing for them great and awesome things, God, confirm forever the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and his house, do as you have spoken And your name will be magnified forever, therefore your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you. You are God and your words are true, you have promised this good thing to your servant. May it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you.
DAVID'S VICTORIES
After this David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, defeated Moab and measured them with a line, one spared and one put to death, defeated Hadadezer and restored his power at the river Euphrates. defeated Syrians who became his servants. The Lord gave victory to David wherever he went. The Edomites became David's servants.
