This is so important, people. Depression is terrible. Its made that much worse when you come to law school and every thing you donât understand, every position you donât get, every class that frustrates you feels like a failure. Iâm sure there are some graduates who have had this same experience or may still be living this (hello, friends, I got you. *finger guns*).
Your mental health is SO IMPORTANT. My entire 1L year was a battle to keep going day after day after day. Hell, my 2L year is STILL a battle. When I got my marks back I sobbed because I didnât do as well as my classmates and friends. I felt angry and cheated and, above all, like I was worthless.
But Iâm NOT worthless, just like YOU arenât worthless. You matter so much. Your experiences in law school are designed to beat you down, and it gets so hard to stand back up; but law. school. will. not. end. you.Â
You got here though your grit and determination and hard work. It feels like hell, like youâre stuck in a burning room with no windows or doors but, god damn it, you matter. Your life matters. Your mental health matters.Â
Real lawblrs are a cynical bunch, and I love that about us; but weâre also here for each other. If you're struggling, if you feel like youâre never going to be good enough, I promise that youâre good enough RIGHT THIS SECOND. Law school doesnât define you. YOU define you. And youâre a fucking nebula; you might be collapsing right now, but thats how stars are born.Â
