last summer, as we know. i binged watch the office. now i like summer binge watching because i can really analyze the show as it goes on and draw parallels. this summer its gilmore girls, and though that doesn't hold a candle to the office, i’m halfway through, and realizing some things
1. for the past year my mom has really been pushing the independence thing to a crazy level compared to friends of my age, and what i perceive as asking for advice, she sees as not being self sufficient. i live alone in the summer, i book my own flight tickets, random school stuff like storage unit, greek life, and besides tuition, am financially independent too. AND THE THING IS, she doesn't want me to ask her for advice. i see a lot of parallels to lorelai gilmore because i like being independent, and i am completely different in ideals and values and lifestyle than my parents and they often look down on mine. she often tries her best to please them, and sometimes it will go well and then snaps and she remembers why she should've never tried in the first place.
2. even within this independence, its interesting to see how lorelai still at the end of the day financially cannot many things alone.... it really shows that it takes years upon years to build up funds and its ok to not have enough. (i stress about job security and money a lot)
3. it bothers me that rory parallels a lot with her grandparents and is a little priss at times and doesn't realize that the issues lorelai have with emily are so long and cannot be understood. she also meddles in lorelai’s life a lot. relationships change overtime, so sometimes people can't see the writing already existing on the walls.
4. how on earth rory got into all these ivy leagues is ridiculous.
