(#FromTheSidelines When you’ve been covering an athlete since he was in high school, he’s from your hometown, and you know his family, you can’t help but be a “little” excited (& biased) when you actually get to document his first career home run (and a Grand Slam at that). Not to mention it’s so easy to pull for him because he’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Pitcher Kirby McMullen was put into the game to pinch hit in the bottom of the fifth inning with the bases loaded and the Gators trailing 4-3 to UCF. Then the Junior dropped this bomb into left field, clearing the bases and leaving McMullen to celebrate. Although I love the smile on Kirby’s face after he goes yard, I think my favorite frame is #5...seeing his teammates pouring out of the dugout and mobbing him because they’re so excited and happy for him. People mark the holidays with different traditions. In our hometown, one of the coolest traditions centers around the sport of basketball...the annual Kingdom of the Sun Tournament. For 45 years high school basketball teams from around the state and across the country have participated in this annual tournament. Many of the athletes who have played in this premier basketball tournament have gone on to star on college basketball teams. It’s a proud tradition for Vanguard High School to host it, and the community to welcome visitors from all over during the holiday season. . . .
