Hello, this is the fourth part of the four pieces of writing (let's pretend I posted this yesterday.)
This is based off of some ocs from the 323rd battalion created by @youeverjustmarryabountyhunter (with several people including @multi-purpose-paperclip)
The first prompt is 'Beginning' and this is the beginning of Brontide's story.
This is the list of prompts btw, so you know whats coming up.
Brontide rolled his shoulders back as he pulled at the ends of the fabric he was wearing - he wasn’t sure what it was called. The trooper next to him - his batchmate called Icicle, a name that was now very fitting because of the brittle cold terrain they’d been stationed in - scoffed loudly upon watching two troopers tackle each other.
Snow and Flake were batchmates with each other and acted like best friends, which they were. They were a playful pair and brought the troop much more laughter than they would probably have gotten if the pair weren’t there.
Icicle clapped his hands loudly and all the troopers within the area spun and turned to him. Brontide rolled his eyes. “Alright, time to get to work,” Icicle shouted and Brontide grit his teeth.
“You're not in charge, Icicle,” he snarled, stepping closer to his batchmate. They’d never been close. “Stop acting like you are.”
The Clone turned to him sharply and shoved him lightly, but aggressively all the same. “Like you know any better, Brontide,” Icicle growled back. Brontide huffed and lunged to tackle the other, crashing them both into the cold snow, punching the boy’s helmet. Ignoring the pain that shot through his fingertips, Brontide dodged a punch to the head and stood up.
“That’s enough, both of you,” Captain Choke called and the troopers all moved to stand to attention, Brontide gritting his teeth as Icicle stood up beside him. “Thank you, Brontide. Icicle, you can take night-shift tonight.”
The aggressive trooper glared at Brontide out of the corner of his eye as he saluted. “Yes sir!” Choke moved to stand beside Brontide, placing a hand on his shoulder.
“You’re my second-in-command, Brontide, if anything happens you're in charge,” Choke told him and Brontide froze in fear. How come he had such responsibility? “It’s okay, you’ll do great.”
Brontide hated the fact that Choke was convinced he was destined to die.
-
Weeks later, Brontide stood over Choke’s dead, lifeless body, head bowed in grief and sorrow. Some sort of beast had attacked his Captain, leaving a bloodied and mauled corpse behind. “You're in charge now, Captain,” Absinthe told him, resting a comforting hand on his shoulder. Absinthe was a good trooper, a loyal trooper, a brother to Brontide.
Brontide sucked in a breath before nodding. “Everyone get to work!” He shouted, watching Icicle sneer at him. “Trooper! You too!”
“You’ll do great, Tide,” Absinthe comforted him, using the nickname he’d given him.
“I hope so.”
-
A month or so later, Brontide stood beside Absinthe as they landed on Coruscant, both immediately getting a pounding headache from the unnatural heat they weren’t used to. They bid their farewells as Brontide was assigned to be Captain of the 323rd, meeting with the Jedi General and the goofy Clone Commander.
As they were sent off into battle for the first time, Brontide had a feeling he would like this battalion, a lot.
