Two people talking over drinks, and the first one asks the second -- on a scale of one to ten, how much do you love yourself? The second answers -- seven. 

“Why?” the first asks.

“Because there are still parts of myself that need improvement. There are things I still need to work on.”

That of course is a fallacy. 

For one, it’s unlikely that they actually love themselves as a seven -- if such a scale were to actually exist -- if only because 7 is the number most people pick when they’re asked to choose a random number from one to ten. 7 is safe. It’s not 6, which is barely a passing grade. And it’s not 8, which suggests aspirational exception. 7 tows that balance.

More importantly -- and the main reason why this line of thinking is fallacious -- is because there will always be something about yourself that you’ll be working on. The more you know about yourself, the more you’ll realise you don’t know. The more you fix, the more you’ll realise need fixing. The goalposts keeps moving, and we'll always all be works in progress.
