sjs @ stl - march 26, 2026 | willmack during warmups
you play that line for 2 minutes without changing whilst the other team has made like 3 changes - SO THEN by the time you put them back out for the last minute their legs are too tired and arent fueled enough to forecheck/backcheck dear god TWO FUCKING SECONDS
that post game mack interview was so devastating. he was clearly completely wiped out, i mean you could see the exhaustion even in his eyes. physical exhaustion for sure but it also looked like mental exhaustion as well, at least to me.
whenever they win, it's "we", and whenever they lose it's always "me" and "i" for macklin. it's very clear that whether it was put on him or he put it on himself, he feels responsible for the whole team. the WHOLE team. on his 19-year-old shoulders. i think, especially looking at mack in the olympics, that he's prone to blaming things on himself, but still. warso putting the entire team on his back and telling him to carry them like a workhorse surely adds to that tendency.
then there's the fact that warso put mack out on three different lines tonight. his toi was 22:56. and he was on for ot for nearly four minutes. like yeah no shit, he's not gonna be able to play as well. he's being absolutely drained of every ounce of energy he's got. warso, if macklin is your star player, shouldn't you be coaching him with care? with caution? with a bit more support from the rest of the team? mack, along with everyone else, wants his career to develop and to last, and this path isn't going to lead to that. i'm genuinely scared it's going to lead to mack getting burnt out and sick or seriously injured.
it breaks my heart that mack was on the ice for a ridiculous amount of time tonight and still says "i'm not doing my part to help the team" and "i should've been there" and "just need to be doing better". macklin, baby, you are doing SO MUCH to drag this team along, TOO MUCH, and that's the issue, if you're too tired and overworked you won't be able to contribute at the level you want to. it's a fucking wonder he could even skate at the end of ot.
it tears me apart inside to see him talk about himself like that... and also seriously concerned. If that's what he says publicly to the media, how does he talk to himself when they cut the cameras? obviously i don't know what the situation is exactly, but if that's what mack believes about himself and warso is just letting him believe that about himself, i feel like there needs to be a much better care and support system in place for mack. that kind of mindset gets you far enough but eventually you crash and burn (speaking from personal experience at least).
anyways as always, i of course do not claim to know anything about mack's personal life or the life of the team and coach. i don't know what actually goes on behind the scenes, which is as it should be! but i get worried from stuff like this that mack is not getting the support he needs. i just hope that his teammates are there for him tonight to comfort and encourage him and love him the way he deserves to be loved.

hhhhhh print wip. this is gonna look awesome if it turns out. and if it doesnt, im killing everyone
Saying they looked tired and the goal happened "before they could get some new legs out there on the ice." No, Warso literally chose not to swap and to run those guys down like that, especially Mack.
:)
