Permanent and/or Supportive Housing/Financial Assistance:

Available to: households with or without children. Must have income (any sort of income is considered, ex: TCA and unemployment are considered income) and can only use this service once per year. Can not live in public housing or section 8 to receive help.

Provides eviction prevention services for any Baltimore City residents facing eviction, depending upon available funding.

MAIN STREET HOUSING (MSH)

Affordable, long-term/permanent rental housing opportunities to individuals and families with psychiatric disabilities in multiple communities throughout Maryland.

Eligibility:

Applicants must have a psychiatric disability and submit a completed Evidence of Psychiatric Disability form with their Rental Application.

For Families, the adult parent must be the primary applicant with the psychiatric disability. Priority is given to individuals leaving an inpatient mental health unit or Residential Rehabilitation Program (RRP).

Single adult applicants must have a minimum monthly income of $500.00. Income can include employment wages, SSDI/SSI, Housing Choice (Section 8) Voucher, Shelter Plus Care (S+C) Voucher, Independence Card (Food Stamps), or other subsidies

Applicants are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Make sure to provide a complete and detailed account of all charges and convictions in the Rental Application; a criminal history search is performed for all applicants.

MSH is usually unable to accept individuals who have been charged or convicted of serious crimes such as murder, acts of violence, sexual offenses, or drug distribution.

Process involves documentation review and multiple interviews: Most MSH units are “cooperative living” where 2-3 non-related individuals share a unit. Families are placed in single units. MSH has a very limited number of single units for individual tenants.

Clothing:

Counseling and Case Management:

After admission, clients are administered assessments of life skills and mental well-being to direct the counseling and case management

In Transitional Housing, 24 hour supported supervision and case management. Each resident is assigned a counselor with whom they meet at least once a week

In Permanent Housing, Outreach Counselors make home visits and provide support services.

Nutrition presentations

GED instruction and tutoring

Health Care:

HIV education

Peer support

Accompaniment to appointments

Referrals

Screening

Adherence with medical, mental health and substance abuse treatment programs

Permanent and/or Supportive Housing:

Permanent housing is a separate program from Transitional Housing.  Clients do not have to go through transitional housing before being eligible for permanent housing.

Nourishment: 3 meals a day provided to residents of transitional housing

Transportation:
