Would love that, for once, they make Liz the clever one and she knew from the start. However two things: why would she say that to TK, if that was the case, in 5.01. She has no need to lie to him about him, and he could even have helped her to find who he really is. Second thing Cooper, and his magical DNA test; issue is the inconsistency in writing, remember when Devrey says that he is the real Raymond Reddington and Cooper turns around and say we canāt prove he is or isnāt, we donāt have DNA Tests on file. Making the FBI looks so dumb, this is the first thing they will do when Red has handed himself in, if they didnāt have anything. They identify him because of his tattoos in episode 1, but wonāt run a blood test, of course. Letās hope itās another āwe forgot what we wrote previouslyā and they really shut down daddygate on Wednesday night.
Okay, Iāll take a stab at these (*grin*).
The first thing: āwhy would she say that (āthatā, Iām assuming, is that Reddington is her father) to TK in 501?ā I have a whole post about the unhealthy relationship that was Elizabeth Keen and Tom Keen percolating in my mind and waiting in the wings for me to pen and post but Iām still collecting support and circumstantial evidence of my theory and opinion of that. Letās just agree that Liz and Tom didnāt tell each other everything. Itās been shown that when itās convenient for her, Liz lies to Tom (to just about everyone, actually), and she doesnāt seem too twisted up about it (maybe thatās a thing she learned from Red, maybe she feels within her rights since Tom started it and she might consider the scales nowhere near balanced despite the sleeping together and child they have). I submit that, like Red says in The Courier, "Circumstances are far more complex than we ever imagined. I'm betting on the long play... The future.ā Itās my belief that this is Lizās perspective as well. Sheās betting on the long play. And keeping the truth close to her vest, even lying to Tom about it, is what she has to do to sell the fact that sheās bought into the whole āRed is her fatherā thing. If she knows that Red isnāt her father (season 1, 102 The Freelancer - palming the scotch glass and running a DNA test which she tells us about in 422 Mr. Kaplan conclusion) and realizes Red isnāt even Raymond Reddington, it still doesnāt answer the question of why heās marked her as so important or who she is to him. In 121 Berlin pt 1, at the end, Liz, regretting submitting her resignation and the fact that Red will likely wind up in a deep hole, confronts Red when he refuses to run:
Liz: You have ruined my life. And I swear to God, right now, I want to kill you. But there are answers I need, and I can't get them without you.
Red: And I can't get them without you.
Liz: So I guess we're stuck with each other.
That need for answers hasnāt changed, so whatās a lie to a man who previously lied for a living if it brings her to the truth in the long run? A true āends justifying any meansā scenario.
The Second thing: āCooper, and his magical DNA test; the issue is the inconsistency in writing, remember when Devry says that he is the real Raymond Reddington and Cooper turns around and says we canāt prove he is or isnāt, we donāt have DNA Tests on file.ā Let me clarify this issue. What theyāre getting at in episode 311 Mr. Gregory Devry, is that IF this guy, who we all learn is a guy named Gregory Devry, WAS the real Reddington, THEN the FBI wouldnāt have his DNA on file. We already know from Anslo Garrick conclusion that the FBI do have our Redās DNA on file (because they compare the blood from the site where Red was tortured to what they have on file and it matches). But, that only works for a Reddington match if the guy theyāve been working with is who he claimed to be. Now this is a twist within a twist within a twist for those of us who believe the imposter theory. According to our theory, Our Red really ISNāT Raymond Reddington, BUT comparing DNA samples would be moot because they didnāt have the original Reddingtonās blood on file. Now, hereās the important thing. Itās not that they couldnāt GET that blood - Harold goes and does that in 421/422. But what he does then is he breaks the law to get that sample. He violates the chain of evidence because he believes they are all going to jail anyway so itās worth it so that Liz can know for sure how Red is connected to her. Harold doesnāt trust the people heās been working FOR (hello Cabal) so he runs the test outside the FBI, in a private lab, just so Liz can know the truth. She then leaves with the evidence/test and runs to Redās motel to show the test to Red and confront him about it, which he neither confirms nor denies. Either way, except for telling Harold that Raymond Reddington is her father according to that DNA, and Harold sharing that revelation with everyone else on the task force, Liz never actually shares the Original Reddingtonās DNA profile with the FBI database, thereby never comparing what they did have on file (from the guy who turned himself in and would only speak with Elizabeth Keen) to what they now know is Reddingtonās DNA. The only person who saw BOTH DNA profiles is Liz - the test she ran on Red back in season one that she claims she was too scared to open and so threw out -- and now the one from Post-Beirut torture 30 years ago, long before Reddington ādisappearedā and then reappeared 4 years later, selling secrets to the highest bidder and confirming his ātraitorā status, reborn The Concierge of Crime.
I hope that was presented clearly enough that it made sense as itās pretty late here right now and Iām super tired, LOL. But, in my own mind, I was able to adequately address the points you brought up and therefore I still believe my theory is valid. I really really really hope the writers let Lizzie be that smart and long-sighted. Itās the more interesting choice and means that Liz is worthy of and more than a match for Red.
