Hey, I just wanted to say I really respect your work! You should be super proud of everything you've accomplished and you're so talented <3 I just have some questions out of curiosity real quick. Is the Lackadaisy comic going to come back in comic form when the short film comes out or is it fully going to become an animated show instead (no pressure btw, just curious) and if it is coming back do you know how much longer you're planning to make it (year or more)? Also is the short coming soon?
Thank you - that's very kind!
-- Yes, the comic will be back. I'm dying to get back to the comic. I just don't have the time or mental bandwidth right now as the film is still in production, the book re-layout/re-edits (including new art) are underway, and I still have Patreon and Kickstarter rewards to tend to.
I was also dealing with worsening arm and hand pain in 2020 when production began...but that's maybe a topic for a separate post here.
-- Back to the comic question again - the intended content amount constitutes a lot more than an additional year of work.
-- I don't know if it'll become an animated show. I suppose that'd be the ideal scenario. At the very least, I'd like to follow it up with some additional animated shorts. That really depends on how well or not-well the film performs when it releases, though. It's a big question mark right now.
-- The film is coming as soon as we can finish it. If we don't miss our mark due to unforeseen circumstances (and there are many of those in the indie animation scene, especially with Covid always looming), it'll be around the end of this year.
It's a little difficult to communicate to people who haven't done any animating themselves just how much work goes into each and every shot, and how many different artists must have their hands on each of those scenes to complete them. (For reference, there are 400 of them in this film.)
If you'd like to see more previews and more in-depth looks at the animation and filmmaking process and where it currently stands, there's quite a lot available to my Patreon supporters.
