Never did, left him⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ fed and happy, listened out of one ear⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ while the other feigned ignorance,⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ heard every word he shouted⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ and answered in turn, words veiled⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ and disguised. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I will not betray you, said I to⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ other I, deep down and patient,⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ spent all these years trying to put⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ together something that resembled⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ an apology. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You are beautiful in a way I am not,⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ and I am ashamed of how long⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ you’ve been hidden away⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ for I never held shame for you.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Everything you are, I am,⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ only less.
