I actually kinda love Jensenās emphasis on the fact that Dean isnāt making any choices in Casās confession scene, instead of confirming Deanās feelings leaning in one way or another. Partly because Iām pretty sure the network would only LET him confirm one direction, and Iām glad he declined to do that. But also because when you watch it, thatās 100% accurate. Dean isnāt making any choices whatsoever. Heās completely broken down by everything thatās happening and then heās gobsmacked by what Cas is saying to him and he doesnāt really have time to react or say anything but. Hereās the thing.
Dean making no choices is also important because I think we all know (and Jensen knows most of all) that if Dean were making choices in that scene, it would have gone completely differently. And thatās not something that we have to interpret out of thin air. We know Dean would choose to do whatever he could to stop Cas, to save him.
I mean, the man had to be dragged bodily out of apocalypse world by Sam, screaming Casās name the entire time. He had to practically be thrown out of Purgatory by Cas himself, staring in horror as he was swept away leaving Cas behind. Even when he was angry with Cas, when he felt they were on opposite sides, he still had to be told to run as an army of demons was sweeping toward him, and even then he couldnāt stop himself from one look back at Cas, trapped in holy fire. He followed Cas to the river even though the Leviathan were dangerous and unstoppable, he couldnāt do anything but witness his death but witness it he did.
The thought of losing Cas literally brought him to his knees just a few episodes before, and once had him praying, shamelessly begging God and Amara both when we know he never prayed to anyone but Cas before that point. He stood before God and said Iāll fight my brother to the death to save the world, but you have to save one person for me, and who was that person? Who was it?!
If Dean Winchester was making choices in that scene, he would have wrapped both arms around Cas and gone with him, and you canāt convince me otherwise.
I think it's amazing that fans have come to Chris Evans's defense re: the whole accidental nude leak situation. I love seeing fans not only discourage sharing and searching his nudes, but actively posting other photos of the actor to quickly drown the nudes out.
But I want to highlight one thing. Because I see a lot of people exclaiming over how he's a great person who doesn't deserve this.
Yes, it's true that Chris Evans is by all accounts a great person. However. Being a great person is not the reason he "doesn't deserve" to have his photos shared without his permission. The reason he doesn't deserve that is he is a human being and deserves the basic respect of not being violated and objectified.
Even if he was just an average okay person, hell...even if he was an objectively bad person, he would still deserve to be given this incredibly basic level of consideration and respect.
So like. This is good! Defend him. Discourage searching and sharing of his nudes.
But do it for everyone who finds themselves in a similar situation, now and always. Because it's not the Chris Evans of it all that matters here. It's that this is a human being who deserves our basic respect, just like every single actor before him whose nudes have ended up online.
@tearsofgrace I saw your Dean wearing eyeliner post and Loved it, and then I remembered that leather jacket from season 12, and...well.
My hand slipped. š
This message is primarily for my fellow white folks who voted for Biden, but also for anyone feeling like they can just relax and check out now that Trump is losing power.
If thereās one thing we need to take away from the last four years--or the last couple of decades--itās that democracy is not a self-maintaining system. We need to continue the process we've started here. We must let go of this idea that if we can just find and elect the āperfectā candidate, all our problems will be solved.
I honestly think thatās part of what drives a lot of this ādonāt vote for the lesser of two evilsā stuff during election years. Thereās this idea that if we could all somehow come together and break the two-party system to vote an ideologically pure, far-left progressive third-party candidate into office, we wouldnāt have to be so plugged in and aware of politics all the time.
But creating and maintaining an equitable, just, and compassionate society takes work. It takes everyone engaging and being aware and involved, and it doesnāt stop, ever. Even if we elected that perfect candidate, we would still need to inform ourselves and elect good state and local officials as well. We would still need to engage with local politics and activism. We would still need to stay involved and hold our leaders accountable. We would still need to call out injustices and inequalities and push for a better world, every day.
Iām willing to admit that during the Obama administration, I got complacent. A lot of us, especially those of us with white privilege or class privilege, got complacent. Looking back, it couldnāt be clearer that things in the U.S. were always far from perfect, but while we were in it a lot of us--not all of us, but many--let ourselves believe politics didnāt require our close attention more than once every two to four years. After all, we had good leaders! And our good leaders would handle the messy business of making democracy go, right?
But democracy doesnāt go without its people. Even the best leaders--and again, in retrospect itās so clear the U.S. has never had the best leaders--need to be held accountable by the ones they lead. By their supporters, not just their detractors. An active, engaged population is harder to deceive, harder to control, harder to abuse.
So even if the election results make you breathe a sigh of relief...remember. Democracy is not a self-maintaining system. Some of us may have survived this storm, but we havenāt recovered from the damages yet. And many, many people did not survive the storm at all.
So celebrate this victory. But then take a deep breath, square your shoulders, and continue fighting for a better world. The work is only just beginning.

I have too many Purgatory feelings to even start listing them. Just...the way Cas looks guilty every time Dean expresses care toward him, because he doesn't feel he deserves it after everything that happened with Crowley and the Leviathan. The way Dean looks at him with horror and despair and betrayal in his eyes as Cas shoves him through the portal, because you're leaving me you're leaving me why are you leaving me. The way Cas looks grim and sad but also satisfied, because he did it, he had the strength to do it, he got Dean out and home and didn't let his longing and his selfishness or Dean's ill-advised loyalty and tendency toward self-sacrifice trap him here. The way Dean looks at Cas with such pain in his eyes, because you bastard, you left me, I needed you and you'd rather die than be here with me? The way Cas has unshed tears in his eyes because he wanted Dean to be free of him he never meant to cause him more pain but Dean's still hanging on and he doesn't deserve him but damn him he's glad.
