Event is falling apart… brick-by-brick

The controversy isn't over the 250th anniversary itself. It's over the perception that this particular celebration is politically tied to Trump. Several artists have said they were told the event was nonpartisan and later learned about the Trump connection. As a result, performers including: Young MC, Martina McBride, Morris Day, the Commodores

have withdrawn or distanced themselves from the event.

From how it sounds in Martina McBride's statement, this was misrepresented to these artists, and now that they know the truth, they don't want their names associated with it.

250 years ago, America was born on land obtained via the genocide of Native American’s for the benefit of white male landowners.

250 years of “freedom” includes slavery, Jim Crow, mass incarceration and the ongoing decimation of the Civil Rights movement- which only moved us a fraction of a step forward to begin with.

250 years of “freedom” allowed women to obtain a credit card on their own in 1974. The same year they could purchase property on their own, and they could only rent an apartment without a male benefactor 6-years before. We were given control over our own bodies in 1973 - and had that right stripped away in 2022.

America has never been what it professes to be, and any attempt to move it forward only results in an backlash setting things back.
