The Alvis Saracen is the Army Today feature from the back page of Warlord No. 48, dated 23 August 1975. The artwork on the main image is by Ian Kennedy.
Growing up in Northern Ireland these were a common enough sight anytime I went into Belfast to buy the latest LP or a new pair of flared trousers. Or were they? The memory cheats and looking back there was another similar(ish) but smaller four-wheeled vehicle called the Humber Pig used by the Army. I think it was probably the Pig that I saw more often but I've ended up conflating the two and just called them both Saracens.
Two comic book connections for the Saracen:
Several were used, with a little bit of movie make-up, in the 1995 Judge Dredd movie. It was probably quite easy to get hold of a lot of working examples at that time.
It appeared to be the be the basis for the armoured vehicle used in the 1979 strip Plague 2000 published in The Crunch, pics of which are elsewhere on this blog.
