I basically spent the past two days watching Wild, Wild Country, and reading everything I could find on the Rajneesh and his followers. I have a lot of feelings, obviously, but the one thing that sticks out to me are the names. All these white people, all of a sudden changing their names to completely Indian names. 

The one thing you can count on a name for is for it to tell you the lineage of its bearer. At least for the most part. And the Rajneeshees completely threw that out the window. If you haven’t seen the series and don’t know much about the Rajneeshees, let’s do a little exercise. Here’s a name: Krishna Deva. What does this person look like? 

I’m almost certain that you’ll get it wrong.

The question isn’t wether or not the Rajneeshess were a cult -- they were. The question is what’s the difference between a cult and a religion? Is it just tenure? You endure long enough as a cult and eventually, you get legitimised as a religion?
