convivimos hace tanto y aún así nunca nos quisimos, es más, nos odiamos. aunque haya mucho desequilibrio ya que de seguro me conoces más que yo a vos, más yo a mi misma y eso no es justo. no es justo que vivas conmigo, que sepas mis pocas fortalezas y me hagas verlas debilidades, y que conozcas mis debilidades y me hagas caer en ellas siempre. no es justo que vivas en mi, no te quiero en mi.

se supone que los monstruos deben estar debajo de la cama, no dentro de la cabeza.

es una batalla constante que solo nosotros entendemos, que solo vos disfrutas y que yo sufro. y llevas tanto tiempo controlándome, tanto tiempo ahogándome en la oscuridad que ahora que comienzo a vislumbrar un poco de luz me dejas apreciarla, me dejas esperanzarme creyendo que es una salida cuando solo era una trampa tuya. que ingenua fui, de nuevo.

y realmente lo estoy intentando pero no sé si seré capaz de sobrevivir, porque aún así, si pudiera ver la luz, después de pasar tanto tiempo en la oscuridad ¿cómo haría para sobrevivir?

no conozco otra cosa que pesadillas diarias e insomnios, migrañas y llantos, lesiones y desgano, sonrisas falsas y mentiras, oscuridad.

siempre lo fuiste pero por favor, déjame sola, aunque sea un segundo.

daría lo que fuese por vivir sin un monstruo en la cabeza.

darías lo que fuera para que muera y yo daría lo que fuera para vivir porque ya me mataste hace rato.

no sé quién vencerá pero que sea pronto porque ya estoy cansada.

I’m at Janda Baik. Or at least I was when I first wrote this.

I wake up by 7am, when the sun is still hanging low in the sky, peering through the trees, and walk to the pool area where I sit crossed-legged, listening, watching the trees. There are bird sounds all around me, and I see a group of monkeys jumping from one tree to another tree. It is all very peaceful. It’s what most people -- at least most urban dwelling people -- would describe as serene. This is what escape from the city feels like. This is what we do it for. The nature. The animals. It costs a premium to stay in the villa that me and my colleagues are staying at, but it’s totally worth it.

Across the road from our villa, not even a two minute walk down the road, there’s construction going on for what I can only assume would be another villa. And in order for that to happen, of course, trees have to be cut down. The birds, the monkeys... the homes of all these animals we so desperately want to be close to -- gone.

The irony, of course, is that the more villas we build, the less nature there will be for us to live next to. And the less green there is, the less green we’d want to exchange for an opportunity to be in that villa.

From the perspective of the animals, I wonder if there’s a premium* for living next to humans.
