Kindred kept me constantly suspicious and left me in that space, without a resolution, which is the frame of mind a reader is probably should take with them after a story like this. Dana never knows when her life will be ripped from her, changed irrevocably, which is a reality for oppressed and hyper visible populations. Using a sci-fi setting to write a first person slave narrative is an interesting distancing that balances the unknowability for a modern American of the lived horrors of slavery, with knowing of the horrors and living an extremely related experience of modern racism and oppression. Final thoughts: Dana deserves a better husband.
♦️Book Journal♦️ QOTD: Do you keep a bookish journal? AOTD: yes. This is one of my favorite pages of my book journal. I’ve read 9/14 books for my 2020 TBR List. Yay 👏🏼 So I started my book journal back in late 2019. I’ve changed my journal 2 times? I kinda destroyed the first one bc of how thin the pages were. This is also what placated me until I knew for sure I wanted to make my own booksta. ♦️ Hashtags: #booksta #yabookstagrammer #bookishjournal #2020tbr #2020tbrreadingchallenge #2020tbrlist #yabooks #bookcovers #yafictionismyaddiction #2020reads📚 https://www.instagram.com/p/CB6Vth9AjRh/?igshid=5pregvgd04fq
🔸June TBR 🔸 My TBR Container has spoken!!! (Y’all, idk why but this is stuck in my head after commenting on @cozyletters_ post. 🤣) 🔸 Anyways, let’s hope I get to Rising (New World) this month bc last month I never got to American Royals. I honestly don’t think I got to any books I said I would read. 🙊 I have carried The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes with me to June and so I am hoping I get that done very shortly. I’ve been in a reading funk. What is one book you are wanting to read in June? 🔸 Hashtags: #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookworm #yabooks #2020tbr #sandandbooks2020 #yabookstagram #books #bibliophile #bookaddict #bookaholic #NewWorldRising #JenniferWilson #YADystopian #dystopian #bookalicious #bookcover #bookishlife #bookreviewer #bookishlytaken #bookshelf #bookcommunity #ILoveBooks #june2020tbr #booktography #junetbr #instabooks #booksbooksbooks #booknerd #owlcratebook https://www.instagram.com/p/CA5iGCagKrO/?igshid=e4twu0lzb7rc

It’s time for my obligatory list of 2020 Anticipated Reads! Everyone has one, and I’d like to keep one up just so I can refer back to it later in the year. For the most part it’s comics and SFF, though a romance or two do show up on there. I need to research some more non-fiction titles and I may go through and add items as they show up on my radar. But onward to the list (links to Goodreads…
If you want to feel like you are spinning, falling closer and closer to lights that are streaking before you, then the narration of Beloved is ideal. Everything about the narrative is talked in circles, which stretches out plot into a beautiful and sharp pain. There’s so much that could be said, but really, its just a book everyone needs to read.
