I did consider in the very early stages not having the dragons in there. I wanted the Targaryen’s symbol to be the dragons, but I did play with the notion that maybe it was like a psionic power, that it was pyrokinesis — that they could conjure up flames with their minds. I went back and forth. My friend and fellow fantasy writer Phyllis Eisenstein actually was the one who convinced me to put the dragons in, and I dedicated the third book to her. And I think it was the right call.
George R.R Martin
Counterfeit. join the rebellion.
Jamie: I’m Jamie. Sam: I’m Sam. Roland: I'm Roland. Jamie: And we're Counterfeit. And if I had a license to rebel I would start a rock n roll band and fart around and playing music forever. Sam: I'd get rid of wasps. Roland: I'd change mild chillis to hot ones and trick everyone. Sam: Sick. Jamie: You evil, evil bastard.
Sundara Karma: “Our fanbase are fucking legends really”
(26 Aug 2017, via)
Ahead of playing the slot at Reading Festival that they’ve been dreaming about since starting the band, we made Sundara Karma reflect on everything that’s happened since ‘Youth Is Only Ever Fun In Retrospect ’. We’re fun like that.
The album came out earlier this year, what’s the reaction been like?
Oscar: “It’s been ultimately positive. When you put an album out your idea of it changes a little bit with it. But that’s always good. You change and you grow up a little bit. Playing all the songs every night as well has an impact on it. I think we’re ready to put out new material for sure though.”
Seeing kids react to those songs must change how you view them as well?
Oscar: “Yeah, that’s been the most rewarding part of it. Playing the songs in front of people and to our fanbase, who are fucking legends really. They make it all worthwhile.”
And so, new material. You thinking about it already?
Oscar: “Tentatively, yeah. There’s not enough of it to have a proper clear idea yet. There are a few early signs we can reach to tell where it’s going sonically though.”
Anything shocking?
Oscar: “Reggae, dubstep.”
Everyone always goes reggae!
Oscar: “It’s the second album, it’s always reggae.”
Dom: “That’s going to take us to the next level.”
Oscar: “That’s a game changer.”
Headliners next year?
Oscar: “The Reading Reggae Festival.”
Dom: “Legitimate reggae from Reading.”
Oscar: “That’s the album name!” Amazing, glad we nailed that.
What are your plans for the rest of the year?
Dom: “We’ve got our tour coming up. We’ve got a Brixton date and then we’ve got something up our sleeves that’s going to be new and different.”
Oscar: “This tour is going to be our biggest tour to date. We want to step everything up for this one. It’s mainly for the people who have come to our shows 6 or 7 times before. We want to do something different for them.”
Dom: “A hologram of Bob Marley to launch the reggae album!”
Hayden: “Or a hologram of UB40.”
Oscar: “That’s kind of more what it would be.”[]

Radio 1 Rock Show aired Jamie and Sam’s little chat from Reading Festival today. You can listen to it here just after the hour mark. Or the video above.
Sam: My name's Sam and I play guitar in Counterfeit. Jamie: I'm Jamie I sing in Counterfeit and play guitar badly. It's our first time here playing and as punters as well. So I'm keen, I'm keen for a bit of Reading. We're actually coming back on Sunday as well to come hang out and check out some more bands. So up to Leeds tomorrow, back down on Sunday. Sammy B.
Sam: Hello. Jamie: I have some questions for you. Sam: For me? Jamie: Are you ready? Sam: Uh, I think so. Jamie: What was your most listened to album in high school? Sam: Take Off Your Pants And Jacket by Blink 182 was my most listened to I think in high school, it was non stop. Jamie: Good album. Sam: Strong record. Alright James B. Listeners back home, they wanna know what was the first album that you bought? Jamie: The first album that I bought was probably a record called Chicago by a band called Chicago. Sam: Okay. Jamie: Well actually Chicago Transit Authority as they were back then. It was from my local record store in Petersfield where you and I obviously grew up. Sam: I remember it well yeah yeah yeah. Jamie: But that was the first album I ever bought, we were fortunate enough to be able to go into our mums office when we were young and basically just raid her entire stock of like Now 34's cos she was like A&R. So we used to just go in there like we'll take this. Sam Bower. What was the first gig you went to? Sam: It was a U2 headline but Kelis was the first support on so technically it was Kelis which was wicked. Jamie: It was on the Elevation tour I believe. Sam: The Elevation tour yes. Very cool. Alright, James Bower. What is your favourite city to have a day off in? Jamie: Venice. Sam: Strong. Jamie: We've been fortunate enough to play Venice once, well sort of close to Venice anyway and it's an amazing city. It's kind of like Disneyland for older people. Sam. What is your most used emoji? Sam: I love the prawn emoji. I love the duck emoji. And the crane is one that's often overlooked, very detailed emoji. I never use them to express myself. It's more of a conformation like to brighten someones day with a duck or something like that. Onto the next. James Bower. What was the last song you listened to? Jamie: Probably Brainfreeze by Decade. Literally just had that on in the van in my headphones. Sam: Okay James this is a tough one. Jamie: Okay. Sam: Umm. Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw? Jamie: Slytherin. If you wouldn't mind. Sam: That'll be the lot. Okay interesting. Jamie: And that's it!
Music-News.com interviewed Counterfeit. at the AIM Awards.
Jamie: Bang bang. Sam: Nice. Very nice.
Interviewer: Counterfeit. just won Best Live Act at the AIM Awards, how does it feel? Jamie: Feels good, feels good. Sam: Mental. Roland: It's crazy. Tristan: It's special. Interviewer: Did you expect it? Jamie: No, we were up against Rick Astley. I mean, I thought Big Rick had got it you know. Interviewer: I saw him this year, and he was.. good. Jamie: He just played with Foo Fighters on stage I saw, on the internet. So for us, it's crazy. Tristan: Yeah. We haven't done that. We haven't played on stage with Foo Fighters so. Interviewer: Not yet. Jamie: Not yet, this is true. Interviewer: Would you like to? Jamie: Absolutely. Roland: Oh my god, I'd love to yeah. Interviewer: Who are your other heroes you'd love to play with? Jamie: We've been fortunate to play with, well my one - Tristan: Billy Talent. Jamie: Billy Talent, Biffy Clyro, obviously Foos I'm super into Royal Blood. I mean I love what Dalgety does. I've been loving what he's done on production since like Dinosaur Pile-Up days. So yeah. Roland: We won't stop until we play with Taylor Swift. We'll get there. Interviewer: Why not!
Interviewer: Debut album - been received so well. Have you started working on the second album? Roland: Yeah we have. Tristan: Yeah little bits. Roland: Trinkets coming through. Tristan: We have plans to move in together, hash out a few things, see what happens. It might not work but we'll see, something will happen. Roland: We've gotta give it a go. Jamie: We've tracked all the seascapes for all the spacey songs we're gonna do. Roland: Yeah we've been collecting samples. Jamie: Exactly yeah. Roland: We've been collecting some interesting samples around London, a bit of time abroad. There's some very good rivers in Venice. Jamie: It's a canal. Roland: Sorry, the canals, forgive me. I have a feeling they'll make their way into the next album. We'll do something different we'll see. Tristan: Keep it fresh.
Interviewer: Is there a working title of any sort? Jimmy: Tight dresses (?) Jamie: Oh no no no no no. Roland: No way Jamie: No no no don't do it. Jimmy: I nearly said it. Jamie: You nearly said it. Don't do it. Sam: The answer is no. Jamie: There is, but it's a secret.
Interviewer: Well thanks a lot for your time it's been a pleasure, what will you be doing after you leave here tonight? Jamie: Probably chasing these two (points to Jimmy and Sam) through the streets of London whilst they're on some sort of mission to go do something naughty - steal a chef's outfit and climb a roof maybe. Interviewer: Sounds like a good plan. Thanks a lot it's been a pleasure.
