This post was a whole pain for me to work on because Tumblr hasn't been too friendly with me. It's taken weeks, on and off, so enjoy reading this, because I don't know when the next post with actual content will come again.

I’ve been curious about the legendary 2014-2015 drought for the longest time and finally did some ‘research’ on early Bangtan. Going through their older videos, I find what people perceive to be a drought in Taejin terms can be very subjective, I think. Although keep in mind this is my perspective as a 1 year old Taejinnie.

Finding videos were easy, but arranging them in chronological order was hell and the dates were all over the place, so I’m going by their albums eras where applicable. Their loud and bright hairstyles are really helpful in this case.

- First and foremost, their most well known moment- Jin revealing that they showered together. Jin is very happy to announce this, though Tae is embarrassed but doesn't stop him. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8Gvf4TA4dc)

- At one of their debut day fansigns, the sprouts of jealousy began. He was hugging JK but his eyes were focused on Namjin. Even after they stop hugging he can’t keep his eyes off them. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Llss3aSvezw&t=1s)

- Back then there used to be an unimaginable number of selcas of the both of them that they chose to share. I daresay they were the closest during their private time from 2011 to 2013 and maybe even till 2015. These 3 alone were from June - July.

(I'm not discrediting Vmin, they were very close as well and went to school together, however their soulmate status was something they put effort into later on. Taejin was close off screen from the beginning mainly due to their common interests and hobbies.)

No baby Taejin posts are complete without this leJindary moment. Initially I have always thought that young Taehyung is the only one nursing his deep crush on Jin, this vlog is the one that proved me wrong. 27 Jun 2013 Arirang radio interview

Taehyung’s immediate reaction was to look down as if dejected. Keep in mind they've just debuted, still very young and very new to all these interview questions so these reactions are likely raw. Its different once they get asked the same question a hundred times after multiple interviews and these questions are no longer a big deal, something for entertainment.

That famous moment where I believe early Armys noticed Taejin’s interactions and found them extremely cute. The entire exchange is adorable, Jin is obviously very very fond and attentive to Taehyung, while Taehyung lights up at the attention. Not sure when the nickname Ctrl-V started though. The both of them uploads similar selcas each. Going through their debut year twitter posts gave me so much heart ache at the number of selcas that they used to be comfortable in showing to us because they were pretty much BFFs stuck to each other like glue.

21 Sep 2013 Their first Kkul FM, Bangtan’s 100 day anniversary. 

Jin’s eyes stray to Taehyung a little more than necessary. Also where the famous butt-staring moment happened. Jin’s focus while everyone else is busy returning to their seats. It's not obvious, maybe just a few offhand moments where he seeks out Taehyung, but I'd say back then when Jin was still figuring himself out, his expressions/reactions tend to be a little more honest. 11 Nov 2013 Their last vlog.

Taehyung seems to function better when with the whole group. He starts getting nervous mainly when it’s only the both of them alone together. On the other hand though, Jin is constantly looking at Taehyung and seeking him out. Again, he's extremely fond of Taehyung, whether or not he was aware that Taehyung is nursing a deep crush for him. 22 Dec 2013 Satzone interview.

This is where the famous moment of Taejin’s very first meeting was made known. There’s no... explanation to this except pure physical attraction? Grinding against a boy older than him just because he was told to “make an impression”. They recently had the Japanese interview for Stay Gold where they described their first impressions of each other, Taehyung only mentioned "The senior with the big shoulders told me to sit down, so I did". It left me wondering why he hadn't mentioned this particular part, I suppose this isn't too appropriate to re-enact or even mention now that they're adults? Although there is another interesting part to this interview that I haven’t seen being mentioned elsewhere before, until I watched the entire thing. 

Before the whole grinding dance was re-enacted, the interviewer asks Jin about his cooking hobby and what would he like to cook for his girlfriend? Jin gets all bashful and says that he’d like to meet someone nice first. He’d want to cook for her all the time and it may not taste good but he’d put all his love into it. (He said something similar in a vlog before that he’d space out while cooking at their dorm thinking of how he’d cook with his future girlfriend/wife and it’d be a domestic bliss)

At 2:48, Taehyung’s reaction to the whole girlfriend talk stood out, he wasn’t paying attention. While all the other members were looking and grinning at Jin getting all shy, Taeyhung is the only only one pointedly looking elsewhere. It doesn’t look like he realises it himself, that he’s completely not interested in the topic, he doesn't want to listen to Jin talking about a girlfriend and Jin’s words are at best, going into his left ear and out his right.

“I was touching the puppies! What were you thinking?” - Hardly believable with the way he practically dragged his whole palm up and down Taehyung’s chest while claiming to be innocently interested in the cartoon print shirt. J-Hope, Jimin and Jungkook does the same thing to each other all the time and I’ve never seen them instigate this kind of ‘reverse psychology’ trick on the other person. Taehyung, being young and faced with his huge crush was unable to answer the question or even divert his attention. Also, that little pause when Taehyung gets shy and can’t answer his question, it’s as if he was trying to gauge Taehyung’s reaction. 

Also the bit at 4:40 to 5:10. Interaction between vocal line, Taehyung is a little more subdued when Jin joins the group, just like in their 2 vlogs when he would get shy when around Jin.

?? Apr 2014 Just One Day Mnet Countdown live. Jin and Jungkook is acting out a scene where he proposes to his girlfriend, and while the other members are ‘acting’ out their cringe at the moment, Taehyung is standing at the side, not even acting or pretending but he’s just... expressionless. After that, this mini moment of Taehyung acting out being ‘manly’ with Jungkook while trying to approach a girl, Jin subconsciously frowns, really not liking what he’s seeing. Since the screenshots don’t do justice, watch from 2:15 onwards. Besides that, they get along well. 

?? May/Jun 2014 BTS goes to LA for AHL

Taehyung is a complete wild card in this show and really does as he pleases. There’s a few cute moments amidst the chaos of this whole show. AHL episode 5 onwards (one of the less cringey and more funny episodes) where they go out and pick up girls is recommended. Everyone’s interaction when with 3 pretty ladies that they casted for their music video is very interesting to watch. Taehyung sees the whole thing as a competition and tries to challenge himself, despite being uncomfortable. Jin is just as uncomfortable, though he feels a sense of obligation and tries his best to break the awkwardness and eventually gets comfortable shooting the MV with the ladies.

He sits down quietly watching Jin get his makeup fixed.

Taehyung being interested in Jin since day 1. He was very impressed by Jin’s beat boxing skills which he learned in only a few days. I'm amused by how accurate the captions are.

And the Taejin backhug happened on the last episode while they were performing their show. I don't know if you agree, but Jin's smile is so so so fond with Taehyung's arms around him. It's just so sweet.

These selcas are enough to tell me they were very much still best friends at the second half of 2014. Not just them being chummy off camera, but them posting the photos to show to army, means they're very close and unafraid to flaunt their bond.

Taehyung posts on Twitter asking if anyone wants to sit beside him on the airplane. Jin replies saying he wants to. But Tae cheekily adds this photo of his bag claiming the seat instead. I think it’s pretty much impossible to get these sort of interactions anymore, the closest being their weverse posts.

02 Dec 2014 MAMA Rehearsal Backstage with MPD

The screenshot doesn’t mean anything, the main point is their interaction, or the lack of in the whole video. The way Taehyung avoids being in Jin’s radius in general gives me the impression that he’s preventing any sort of interaction that makes it obvious that he’s in front of his crush on camera. If my impression is right, that means that he's become aware that he behaves differently with Jin and can't hide it. With JiHope fooling around beside them it becomes more obvious that he's staring at Jin a little too earnestly in trying to fake kiss him. And the way Jin is trying to 'push' him away, he might as well not bother at all. In the whole of 2014, besides small moments of jealousy, I can’t find a single moment where it seemed like they were on bad terms or were having a major conflict. No cold stares or keeping a distance from each other that would have suggested a fight or some sort. Their bond is still very much platonic.

27 Jan 2015 Bonsang Awards at GDA

I’m not sure what’s their deal, but after they received their award and went backstage to express their thanks toward Army on camera, Taejin keeps their distance and Jin’s expression is rather stiff when Taehyung is right in front of the camera. Watch here from 1:55 onwards. Although it's not enough to say that they had a form of conflict or were cold to each other, it may have just been a friendly argument, or even nothing at all. After this, for the majority of 2015, there’s no visible on screen interaction that suggests they’re still as close/clingy as in 2013-2014, except that they were still getting along just fine within the group. Also, Taehyung is closer to Jimin and Jungkook during this period of time, and Taejin selcas drastically dropped to once per month to a max of 5 for the whole year. There’s basically no way to screenshot any of this, so I’ll just leave a few links to see for yourself. Again, I can't be sure if they were really having a cold war here.

05 May 2015 The Show Interview 

The instruction was to ‘Tell the person beside you something you want them to do with the song ‘I Need U’ and Taehyung starts giggling and leaning on Jin while singing the exact words “I need you~”. While Jin says that he’s very straightforward in how he talks. (Very straightforward about his crush as well) They're getting along on screen here better than from Jan to early April. 07 May 2015 I Need U 

Their first win on M! Countdown. Everything seemed fine before, until this moment happened and again, I don’t know what’s their deal. Jin is eager to put the lipstick on Taehyung, and Taehyung doesn’t react at all. He blankly stares at Jin for a few seconds then goes off to try and put lipstick on Jimin with a smile. After that there’s no interaction between the both of them again until they get backstage and Taejin is in the elevator together with Yoongi speaking in front of them. 

Another backstage clip of them thanking Army for their first win and MPD presents them with a cake. Another short clip which left me more questions. Jin is holding on to his shoulders, though there’s a complete lack of reaction from Taehyung, he’s just focused on eating the strawberries. I don’t know if it’s only because he loves the strawberries that he got distracted and once he finished eating them he focuses on the camera again or he's actually ignoring Jin for some reason. I found this really really cute, while Jin was flirting with the cameraman (J-Hope), Taehyung could be seen in the reflection going all soft and smiley. And the only reason I noticed- everyone else was 'cringing' except him.

One month later, they’re getting along again. Jin challenges himself to eat the Jajangmyeon meal within a minute while Jimin times him and Taehyung, J-Hope and JK is behind the camera commentating. Jimin and Taehyung eats his leftovers once he failed the challenge. Nothing significant, just that they seem to be getting along just fine. Somewhere between the end of I Need U promotions and the beginning of Dope era, their expressions softened a alot, and they're looking into each other's eyes properly. A different sort of interaction from 2013 all the way to first half of 2015.

Yoongi plays a priest, ready to listen and ‘forgive’ the members ‘sins’. Taehyung comes in and tries to talk about Jin. But he changes his mind and switches his victim the moment Yoongi asks “Is this funny?”. I guess whatever Taehyung had in mind doesn't pass Yoongi's funny criteria.

?? Jun 2015 Run BTS Episode 2 (Aired on 02 Aug 2015)

The infamous ‘Taejin sit in each other’s laps, on a single frail foldable chair, holding each other’s hands and looking into each other’s eyes’ moment. Oh and they spit into each other’s faces. A few things to note here: 

Jin: Jin ‘protests’ when Taehyung pinches his nipples, saying “Where do you think you’re touching??” Is also self conscious when Taehyung holds his hands, but is completely fine when the members do it to each other during the game. As if he wasn’t the one to proclaim to the world that they sleep in the same single bed and showered together before. 

Taehyung: Seemingly unaffected and welcomes Jin to sit on him, happy to hold hands.

Yoongi: I’m guessing is the first member to sense that something is off with Taejin (Being Jin’s room mate and all...) Because of his reaction to Taejin as compared to the other 4 seems to be more guarded and cautious.

The other members: Seemingly clueless and egging them on.

This is the first tweet together since that birthday post in 2014. All of a sudden they’re chummy again, and in the Dope MV making, Taejin is seen role-playing with each other in between filming. A lot more friendly than the beginning of 2015.(https://twitter.com/BTS_twt/status/612562167380848640)

25 Jun 2015 M Countdown Backstage

Their interactions here sort of serves as confirmation for me that they're all soft and friendly with each other again. Jin is making proper eye contact with Taehyung on screen, eyes even lingering a few seconds longer than necessary. Something changed between them, at least that's what it feels like to me. Also he steals a glance but immediately looks at the camera and blinks and turns his gaze away.

Just to point out Jin’s expressions, seemingly neutral at first but later on turns disinterested or even displeased at the progress of the game. While the other members and even the lady behind recording the whole saga can’t help but be amused, he’s not even sparing a second glance.

I can’t be sure if it’s the same but it kinda looks like the matching bracelet he had with Taehyung, as seen in their first episode of Run BTS live in Thailand.

20 Jul 2015 VHope eating Churros

Just putting it out here, simply because... J-Hope offered to eat the long churros with Taehyung mouth to mouth and then he says that it reminds him of Their Rookie King kiss punishment, making Taehyung cringe. I've noticed an increase in mentions of VHope being romantically involved, because of the Festa 2020. J-Hope and ML is a huge platonic love-fest. 29 Jul 2015 TRB Blanket Kick

A far cry from the slightly awkward Blanket Kick moment in Dec 2014, Jin is allowing Taehyung to bring his face that close, whether they brushed their lips against each other's cheeks or not. Again, such proximity wouldn't be possible on stage if they weren't comfortable being this close off stage. Also, I think Taehyung really really really likes touching/grabbing Jin by his neck. As much as I would love to call this a Taejin vlive… he only appeared for barely a few seconds. Jimin appeared as well, later on, providing more food on the table. He looked like he wanted to join but held back. I guess I'll only count a Taejin vlive an actual vlive if they appear on screen, side by side just the both of them together for more than 5 minutes.

The legendary moment which served as a significant indicator that Taejin still weren’t mutually exclusive or non-platonic yet at this point of time. I thought he's actually gotten his major reactions under control, but I guess the appearance of his most beloved shoulders would still cause him to glitch. Tae pulling the chair closer to him knowing that Jin will be sitting next to him. 

His obvious fluster at having Jin in a tight black shirt touching his thigh and then his reaction when Jin removes his hand, is so adorable. I find it interesting that his reactions are reminiscent of their vlogs in 2013, considering how close they've become within the 2 years. And of course, his absolute love for Jin’s wide shoulders since the beginning of time.

By the time December rolls around, a lot of things change. 

03 Dec 2015 

Firstly, the infamous photo of Seokjin’s naked back in the kitchen while he cooks, taken by Taehyung. Why I see this as something significant- they were still young, Jin hates to show off his body despite his perfect physique, to post this sort of photo mean that the both of them had mutual consensus. The captions are interesting as well, Taehyung posted this, but the hashtag says 'Taehyung-ah I love you'.

There’s two parts to this date, one is their vlive and another is their Bangtan Bomb. Taehyung was really clinging to Jin throughout this vlive. There was an attempt at a cheek kiss, though Jin noticed the screen and evaded. 

And for the majority of the live he clung to Jin like a baby koala. Extremely clingy, massaging, hugging, not letting go. Jin teased as well, asking who wants to eat the cake first and asked Taehyung but he puts the cake in his mouth.

He gets very close and it looks like he’s right beside Jin’s ear, and while this isn’t uncharacteristic of younger Taehyung, it's not something he would have done to Jin back then when Jin was still a crush. It’s also adorable how he headlocks Jin when Jin teased them a lot. Again, he would do this to Jimin and JK, though probably not to the hyung line except Jin.

And the most puzzling part of this birthday celebration is this backstage scene.

Incomprehensible. What do all these mean? And the tone of Jin’s voice when he said “Come here?” That was quite something, I’ve never heard him use such an intimate tone on any of them before this. 

10 Dec 2015 Mnet backstage

This is the Mnet backstage where Jin won a date with M PD and they pranked him with the woman sleeping in their hotel room. There were a few things in this episode which stood out to me. I like seeing them chummy with arms around each other. 

In this moment, Namjoon and Jimin were happily chatting, “Jin-hyung would probably love it when he sees the pretty woman in bed.” And considering how possessive and jealous Taehyung can get, also the fact that he's now well aware of his attraction to Jin, the way he’s grinning in the back while listening to them talk made me wonder if they had begun  something non platonic/being more than best friends and the other members weren't aware of it yet, therefore his relaxed expression. Unless he's just going along with their jokes though I still suspect they were already more than just friends here.

For the rest of the birthday prank, he sticks really close to Jin’s side. His behaviour and confidence through the whole of Dec is completely different from 2013 to early 2015. Jin as well, used to be very clingy and touchy with Taehyung, became more cautious of touching him. A telltale sign that somewhere along the lines, their friendship lines blurred and his crush is no longer just a crush, the attraction is now mutual.

11 Dec 2015 Sinchon Fansign

One of the most amusing and interesting early Taejin trivia, besides them being extremely close, eat together, showering together. Yeah the tweet sounds more wrong than it actually is, but still makes me wonder how Jin managed to injure his finger while playing in Taehyung's room.

In conclusion, if I had to pinpoint an era pre 2016 where it could be called a drought, it would be the first half of 2015. They were extremely close, practically BFFs sharing their selcas and posting it regularly on twitter, but then it dwindled come 2015. They were still very much friendly, though Taehyung was leaning onto Jimin and Jungkook more, and they were less chummy and clingy on screen as compared to 2013-2014.  

It seems like I need U era was a turning point for the both of them, not sure what could have happened. Their friendliness from second half of 2015 intensified in Dec, where they were beginning to evolve into something less platonic, less of an unrequited crush to something more mutual. This went on till 2016 when they had their actual first 'conflict' which was caught on screen in BV1. Members wise, I surmise that Yoongi and Jungkook were the first to find out, and the rest much later in late 2016.

In my head, I suspect it went something like this- Jin was very clingy and touchy in 2013-2014, while Taehyung was more shy and subdued. I'm guessing something changed at end 2014/early 2015, maybe a love confession from Taehyung to Jin which possibly forced them to think about the implications and what they want to do about it while Taehyung stuck to Jimin and Jungkook since it seemed like Jin was trying to figure himself out. (I don't know if they fought or not, can't tell) They can't exactly keep away from each other for too long, so mid 2015, they slowly became more friendly again and the tables turned, Taehyung became more confident and clingy while Jin more subdued and cautious. End 2015 to early 2016, they came around and got physically involved with each other first before finally putting a label to their relationship at second half of 2016. Lovers, or boyfriends, maybe. (Why I say physically involved first; because that whole conflict in BV1 and their growing sexual tension in first half of 2016 gives me the impression they were still navigating and trying to figure out their relationship.) After that it transitions into their post 2016 era which I've dissected before.

So, I was feeling Nostalgic for ‘Over Powered Self-Insert Mary-Sue’ characters, so I decided to try drawing the first MLP OC I had ever made, which was back in 2013. 

Her name is Feria, and she’s basically Evil McDoucheface’s ‘good twin’. She had a story that was basically ‘shove her into the main plot’. Literally. Every chapter that was written and posted was a rewrite of an episode with her shoved in. And of course, every trope that a MLP oc could have. Alicorn? Check. Bffs with the mane six? check. Princess? check. Seventh Element? check. Romance with a character? Double check, as she had a past with Discord but also kinda started liking Rarity.
