Robert is very much still distressed over his mum’s death (Jack doing his best to console him). Kathy brings home Victoria. Jack tells the boys Sarah’s funeral won’t be for a while because of the investigation. Diane asks Jack straight out if he did indeed set the fire because he’s cash strapped for an insurance claim. Jack believes Richie set the fire to be rid of Sarah (‘it’s obvious, isn’t it?’)
Jack: I did NOT set fire to the barn!
Diane: But how else did it happen? Spontaneous combustion? They’ll find a way of proving it, Jack, and then…
Jack: How can you even THINK that I did it?!
Diane: Because of what you told me.
Jack: I did NOT kill my wife!
