The Dewalt DCS367 20V max XR Brushless Compact Reciprocating saw is a compact and lightweight design.  The purpose of this tool is to fit in tighter places easier than the standard reciprocating saw.  Dewalt added a nice a variable speed trigger with 0-2900 SPM or strokes per minute. The DCS367 also offers a 1-1/8″ stroke length, a non-adjustable but pivoting shoe, 4-position blade clamp and a bright LED light. With the lack of an adjustable shoe, we found this saw to work best for long days cutting wood, but it also works well for metal, but will go through blades faster since you cannot adjust for blade wear.  Like other Dewalt power tools, the DCS367 is backed by DEWALT’S 3 year limited warranty.

One item that you will notice missing in the specs is any vibration control.  This is a compact saw with a lot of power, but it would not be your main demo saw as your hands would be numb after the first hour.  We love the design and how it fits in tight places.  The compact saw serves a need, but is a tool that would be in addition to a good reciprocating saw if used all day.

The Design of this Saw

First, this saw rocks with how easy it is to use in almost any position.  Second, the saw lacks any vibration dampening.  Those two items are the good and bad about the saw.  For anyone who works in tight places and does not use the saw constantly all day, the vibration will not be an issue.  Plumbers, electricians and mechanical contractors will love the design, the 4 place chuck and the ability to fit between joists.  Someone in demolition would enjoy the same qualities, but it would not compare to other saws on the market that are much larger in regards to vibration.

If this saw was for an advanced DIYer, you could easily get by with just this saw.  There is enough power to prune, or cut down large trees.

Overall

If we had to place one word to describe the Dewalt DCS367 it would be controllable.  The variable speed trigger is unlike many others on the market as it has the finesse that is lacking in many quality power tools.  Being able to blade the blade in so many configurations allows for easy hand placement and a comfort not allowed by larger saws.

For the design and use, we would rate this saw at an A-, but know that there will be some vibration when it is used!

The DEWALT DHS790AT2 FlexVolt 120V MAX double bevel compound sliding miter saw is the most innovative cordless tools introduced in 2016.  We feel this way because of the miter saw’s ability to use two 60 FlexVolt batteries or a power cord adapter to run off a cord.  No other saw on the market allows for this use.  Having the ability to use either AC or DC power makes this saw a versatile and also able to be passed on to future generations, no matter what battery technology changes.  We have seen a lot of changes in tool technology and the corded versions, even ones from 40 years ago are some of the few that might still be able to be used 40 years from now.

The DEWALT DHS790 has a powerful 120V Brushless motor provides long runtime on battery, but also a maintenance free motor when run on AC.  Like all other corded DEWALT miter saws, the accuracy of this miter saw is excellent.  The LED lighting over the saw blade also functions as a cut line for positioning the blade for precise cuts.  Easily adjustable sliding fences support crown molding up to 7-1/2″ nested and base molding up to 6-3/4″ vertically against the fence. The miter detent plate with 10 positive stops miters 60° to the right and 50° to the left. This is a large miter saw compared to other battery operated models, but it still only weighs 56 lbs.

No matter how you use this saw, via battery power or off the cord, performance is excellent.

Tool for a Lifetime

There is no knocking good battery operated tools.  We enjoy them every day, but at some point, batteries change and technology brings forward something new.  Tools are not made for long term use like they were 50 plus years ago.  Around our shop are tools that my Grandfather used to build homes.  Many of those tools were purchased in the 1970’s and they still work today.  Will we be able to say that with our cordless tools made today?  We think you can with the DEWALT DHS790 FlexVolt miter saw because of the corded adapter.  Being able to plug the mister saw in allows for use after the batteries die or become outdated.

Beyond being outdated, the batteries in the FlexVolt saw are able to be used in 20 volt tools.  These batteries might be swiped from the saw when they are needed in other tools on the jobsite.  The ability to change the miter saw over to corded power when needed is the ultimate option.

In our use, we had excellent battery runtime.  Our testing exceeded the results posted in the DEWALT specs.  We cannot say enough great things about this saw after long term use.  If you are in the market for a new miter saw, this model is one to put on the short list!

The Worx Switchdriver is a tool that will come in handy for many who are waking around a drilling and driving but also for many with little room to hold multiple tools on their assembly table.  The ability to quickly change from one task to another with a quick pull of a trigger and twist of a head will be a great advantage to many.  The power and speed of this drill are very suitable to drilling and driving smaller fasteners into wood.  There is an adjustable torque setting on the side of the drill that allows adjustment on a scale from 1 to 11 and another setting for drilling.  The 20 volt max batteries held their charge for a long time although they lack a fuel gauge to let you know how much charge was left in the battery. Does it Worx?

The Worx Switchdrive is a unique tool that we think will fit into many peoples shop.  The low power of the drill/driver (265 inch pounds) does not strip fasteners and allows for precise fastening on delicate projects.  There are a few items that will hold this back from being a contractors tool.  The battery charger simply slides on the top of the battery and for lack of better words, is a dumb charger.  That means that the charger does not sense when the battery is fully charged and needs to be removed.  This charger cannot be left on the battery overnight.  Second, the batteries do not have a fuel gauge stopping the user from knowing if the batteries need to be charged before leaving for work.  The combination of not knowing the charge level of the battery and a charger that you cannot leave the battery left us confused as to how to store the batteries.  To add to that, each battery takes 5 hours to charge.  So it would take 10 hours to fully charge each battery if they were dead.  That works for a homeowner, but not a contractor.

Will the Worx Switchdriver work in your shop?  It might be a great fit if you do not have the room for a drill and separate driver on your assembly table.  We are used to using a small drill and light duty impact driver for our assembly.  With this tool we did not have the need for multiple tools.  Use of the Switchdriver was fast and efficient.  The only time it did not save time was when we had to adjust the torque level from fastening and then again for drilling.  At that point, we would be better off with multiple tools.  Also, with multiple tools come double the cost.
