WIRED
its three am/ and i finally understand what the expression
"WIRED" means
its not electrical wire
with current whizzing throughout it
electrifying energyzing
but rather its like//
wire
a thick and grey rope
holding joints taunt
as if/ the body was suspended by a system of pulleys
using tension to stay together
instead of solid reliable bone
and every time you move you shake a little
because that movement
threatens the delicate balance your system of wires relies on
because you/ are// wired
oh so wired
held together by some fancy application of physics
that seems like it makes sense/ but
if you inspect it too closely
if you try to apply it to/ well/ anything
it all falls apart
like the wires that keep you up physically
and the caffeine that keeps you up mentally
you're not really awake you're not really making progress
but you're miserable and tense
and the wires// that run through you
are made up of smaller wires
intricate metal/ rough
twisting together in a cohesive mess
as you/ desperate// just wok
work until you're lightheaded
until the bones are truly gone
until you dont remember what day it is
but that doesnt matter because its passed already
and so has your deadline
but the wires//
theyre still there
shaking as your elbow bends
straining as you breathe
as metal slides past metal
friction/
not quite grinding
but still unpleasant
unpleasant as/ being up at three am/ working caffeinated//
wired
