One Last Kiss Before Dawn - new Adar fic
Alright all....I am stressed and a mess. Episode 8 is coming out soon and I am not prepared. So I did the only thing I could do and wrote a one shot about someone who loves Adar worrying about losing him in the battle. There is kissing. I am just unwell over this man. *sigh*
The link to Ao3 is here: One Last Kiss Before Dawn
Aaaaannnd....I usually don't post the text of my stories here but I feel this one is worth doing since I know we are all super emotional. This way anyone who doesn't have Ao3 can still read it. *sobs*

Adar stretched his legs under the table while twirling his fork in his hand. Galadriel had told him everything he needed to know and yet in the deepest part of his soul, he knew something was wrong. Sauron had been the one to direct him to Eregion and the thought that this was an elaborate trap, did not escape him. However, Adar had come too far and had seen his children go through too much pain to not strike while the iron was hot. Sauron did not have an army, he was alone, and now might be their only chance for victory.
As he leaned back in his chair, he heard the faint shuffling of feet at the doorway. He smiled.
“Come in.” He said softly.
You felt your breath hitch in your throat as you moved closer. His crown of flowing black hair swept over his shoulders so regally it made you gasp. Adar sat as still as stone, calm in the face of the upcoming storm and you would give anything to have even a modicum of his calm confidence.
You had been his captive for nearly a year and in that time your emotions had ranged from anger and fear to acceptance and eventually, admiration. The uruks never harmed you and when Mordor was created, Adar made sure you were spared his brand. You toiled with the other prisoners until Adar removed your chains, installing you with the uruks, learning their crafts, helping cook their food, and mending those who were injured. After so long living amongst those who had once given you nightmares, your capacity for fear had been diminished.
But not tonight. Tonight you felt fear in every bone of your body. Adar was going to attack Eregion and the lives that would be lost sent chills through your veins. But more than any other life, the one who sat before you, was the life you feared losing the most.
As you walked around the table, you stood next to Adar and sucked in your breath. He was gorgeous. His smokey voice had become a comfort for you. You two often shared meals and when you couldn’t sleep, he offered you the comfort of his conversation. He was incredibly wise, kind, and offered you insights that you had been craving your entire life. He was once your enemy and now you looked up to him as a mentor, a hero, and a friend. More than that, your feelings for Adar had become increasingly romantic over the past few months. You didn’t dare reveal these feelings for how could someone as ancient and nearly preternaturally beautiful ever look at you as anything other than a brief light in his endless darkness.
“What is it, meleth-nin?” He asked softly.
You rung your hands as you gathered the courage to speak. Adar leaned back in his chair and looked at you with warmth and patience.
“Don’t go.” You whispered. “It’s a trap.”
Adar sucked in a breath and stood. You could feel yourself starting to tremble. He stood before you, forcing you to tilt your head up to look at him. The intoxicating scent that traveled with him everywhere, hit your nostrils and you let out a soft moan. The thought that after this war, you might never be surrounded by his scent again made tears well in your eyes.
Adar raised his hand to your cheek, his long fingers caressing your face as his beautiful green eyes looked down at you with warmth.
“Fear not, beautiful one. I have lived through much worse, I assure you.” He rasped.
You forced yourself to smile but your heart continued to break.
“And if you don’t? What then? Why not go back to Mordor, build up more forces and think of a better way to combat Sauron.” You forced yourself to say, noting how his eyebrows ticked upwards as you spoke. “The elves will fight you. Sauron will fight you. I know you have been through bigger battles, but this time Sauron is your enemy. I am afraid.” You finished as tears fell down your cheek onto his fingers.
Adar sighed, wiping your tears with his thumb, his hand falling from your face to your shoulders. The warmth of his hand on your shoulder as he squeezed you lightly was a soothing balm to the torrent in your soul.
“I have lived through much, young one. We have fought greater battles and Sauron is perhaps at his weakest right now. If we do not move forward now, I do not see a happy end for us later.” He said sadly as he turned and walked towards the fire.
You rolled your shoulders, already missing his touch, and followed him to the fire.
“Many will die.” You stated simply. He turned to you.
“Aye. And if we are successful, many more will live.” He reached out once more this time placing his hand on your back. You turned to him, tears flowing freely.
“And if you are one of the ones who die?” You gasped, choking back the sobs that threatened to fall from your lips.
Adar smiled at you sadly.
“Then I will die knowing I have done everything to keep my children free.” He moved his hand up your back to cup your face once more, wiping away your fresh tears. “And you, my lovely, have helped to make that happen. Your kindness and support have been a great treasure to me. No matter what happens this night, know that you are very dear to me.”
You shook your head.
“I don’t want to lose you.” You whispered. “I can’t lose you…”
You felt the sobs shake through your body as you cradled your stomach and began to weep. Adar moved forward quickly, pulling you into his chest by wrapping his arms around you. His warmth, his scent flooding you, and his calm overtaking your fear.
“Shhh….” He cooed into your ear, his raspy voice sending chills down your spine. “It will be well in the end, my love.”
You lifted your head and looked into his eyes, surprised at his last words.
“My love?” You gasped.
Adar shook his head and smiled down at you.
“As if you didn’t know.” He laughed. “I see you. I see your soul. You mean more to me than I thought possible. It has been so long since I….”
You lifted your hand to his face as he spoke and as you moved your fingers to his hair, he stopped speaking.
“Am I dreaming?” You gasped.
His grip on you tightened, his arms pulling you closer to his chest.
“If you are a dream, then let me never awake.” He hummed. “One last taste of sweetness before the bitterness of tomorrow.”
You opened your mouth to respond but Adar silenced you as he tilted his head and closed his mouth over yours.
Adar swallowed the moan that broke free from your throat as his mouth devoured yours. This. This is what you had wanted for so long. This moment, this closeness, the taste of him, his hands on your back, the feeling of his chest pressed against yours, this was pure ecstasy. Your hands ran through his dark mane, his hair like silk running through your fingers. His breath over your skin as his lips moved from yours down your neck, setting your nerves on fire. The soft scratch of his gauntlet-covered hand as it moved lower to cup your rear made you gasp, the feeling of pleasure and pain mixing until he lifted you effortlessly, carrying you backwards to the dining table with one arm under your hips, and his free hand in your hair.
He placed you roughly on the table, quickly moving between your legs as he captured your mouth again. He was heady, intoxicating, and as his tongue swirled around yours, you could feel the thousands of years of experience rushing over you, making your very soul sing to the tune he was playing.
“Adar.” You moaned as he twisted his fingers in your hair and pulled your head backwards, devouring your neck like you were his last meal.
With a growl he pushed you forward, your back hitting the wooden plank that served as his dining table. You could feel your body aching for his touch, heating between your legs as he roughly lifted your legs around his hips. You wanted this. You wanted all of him. You wanted to see him, to touch him and to feel him around and inside of you.
“Please.” You begged as your fingers began to shakily attempt to remove his armor. His rough laugh at the nape of your neck made you shake.
He lifted himself from you, the loss of heat from his body a terrible chill. You needed him back, you needed him to touch you. He moved quickly and with one swift pull, his armor was off. You fumbled towards his chainmaille, attempting to remove it but he stilled you by placing a hand on your chest. He pushed you back down, your back hitting the wood. His hand was like iron on your breast bone. You knew he was strong but this was unlike anything you had ever felt before. He felt immovable. He was steel and flesh in one and you wanted nothing more than for him to bend you to his will.
“Be still, little one.” He smiled. “We have all night.”
You could feel your heart beating rapidly as he slowly moved backwards and removed his chainmaille, leaving only the fabric undergarment as the last barrier between your eyes and the chest you had longed to see.
“Adar.” You gasped. “Please…let me touch you.”
He smiled kindly and leaned forward, lacing your hand with his, pinning your wrist over your head. With your free wrist you reached up and opened the neckline of his undergarment, his gorgeous pale flesh slowly exposed to your hungry eyes.
He was stunning. He had scars to be sure, but the majority of his chest was free of the lines of torment. His shoulders and the tops of his arms bore the weight of his scars but his chest and his gorgeous abdomen were as smooth as silk. You leaned forward, pushing against the weight of his hand on your chest. He smirked down at you and released you, allowing you to sit up before him.
“Explore, my love. Tonight, I am yours.” He breathed as he bent forward and kissed your neck, sucking in your tender flesh as his right hand began to remove your shirt.
You felt like you were in a trance, leaning forward, you slowly kissed down his neck as your hands touched his chest. His skin was warm, smooth and you wanted all of him. His dark hair fell over your face as you kissed down to his collarbone, the feeling of silk over your eyes mixed with his heady scent made you feel drunk. When he removed your top, exposing your tender flesh to the cold night, his gaze set you aflame once more.
“You are beautiful.” He rasped, reaching out to touch you, running his hand down your chest as he sucked in a gasp. “I knew you would be, but I was unprepared for how you rival the beauty of the first light.” He leaned forward and kissed you deeply. Leaning back once more, he looked in your eyes and whispered. “You are all my lights.”
You snapped. Pulling him towards you, you kissed him back with a ferocity you didn’t know you possessed. You wanted all of him and the more you touched him the more you desired. His hands were all around you and as his bare chest met yours you knew you would never get enough of him.
As you pulled him down on top of you, the weight of his body filled you with a sort of peace you had never expected to feel. He was your savior, your protector, your lover and your love. Tonight you would show him just how much you loved him, how much you needed him, and how deeply he had changed your world.
“I love you.” You whispered as you cupped his face and stared into his eyes.
“Le ni meleth.” He said as he looked deeply into your soul. “And now, let me show you how much.”
You smiled up at him as he claimed your lips once more, melting into the one you loved above all others. You didn’t know how much time you had left, but for tonight, you would show him the map of your soul, and give him every reason to come home tomorrow.
