13 REASONS WHY, SPOILERS.
I'm not talking from experience at all.
Okay, so I finished the last season of Thirteen Reasons Why last sunday and the death of Justin destroyed me!! I'm not okay with it but I kinda understand the narrative choice. I think...? Whatever. Now, here's my major disapointment about Justin's death that I can't stop thinking about. 13 Reasons Why is THE show that claims to raise awareness about serious subjects. We all love/loved it for it. But they totally FAILED to do it so with Justin's death. When we meet Justin in episode one this season, he is doing better than ever! And God, it was so amazing to see him like that! Then episode 7... I dare you to tell me that you didn't notice what I'm about to talk about. Yes. The big lesion on his neck. Like I said, I'm not talking from experience and I don't know anything about AIDS but lesions like these are/can be AIDS symptoms!! That's something that I've learned from the show, Why Women Kill! So, back to episode 7. The big lesion on his neck is the first one that we see and starting to show them like this on his neck was a "smart" choice because everybody was going to think that it was a hickey from Jessica, since they kissed in the previous episode. I personnaly never thought it was a hickey, especially when Justin took his clothes off and I saw a big lesion on his stomach and one on his back. I was so worried!! Then episode 8, a new lesion on his left temple. Episode 9 on his hands... When the doctor told the Jensens that he had AIDS everything suddenly made sense to me and I was angry at myself because it didn't occur to me!! Not that I could have done anything... The decision to show lesions on Justin's body was a fucking great idea!! SO MY PROBLEM IS WHY DIDN'T THEY TALK ABOUT IT?! Nobody mentioned it once! Not even the DOCTOR! She even said "Justin may not have shown any symptoms for some time". Uhm, EXCUSE ME, he had! And that's what pisses me off. No need to guess that Justin noticed the lesions, it was his body but he probably didn't wanna scare anyone. I can't really be mad at Clay for not noticing them or not asking about them to Justin, he went through a lot. But I am SO mad at Clay's parents! I know that Justin and Clay are not easy boys to raise but come on! When Justin opens his letter from college, he has the lesions on his neck and his temple. Same thing when the boys tell them about their secrets... And I'm mad at Jessica too!! I mean, if some lesions like these appear on your boyfriend (or whatever)'s body, you should be worried! I've seen a sitcom where the girlfriend was worried about a mole on her boyfriend's neck. Well, it was just chocolate 😂 but my point is, she was WORRIED!! So, yeah for me the writers completely failed here. They could have made a character, Jessica would have been great, notice Justin's lesions. We could have seen them at the hospital and discover that Justin was sick. They didn't have to kill him off. They could have made us understand that he was dying, no matter what, unfortunately. But we could have seen him happy even if he knew that he was dying. We could have seen him leave with Clay and Tony at the end. WE DIDN'T HAD TO SEE HIM DIE IF THEY HAD TALKED ABOUT THE LESIONS!!!
