βAn empty lantern provides no light. Self-care is the fuel that allows your light to shine brightly.β β Unknown πΏπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏπΏ Thoughts post two rounds of #100DaysofSelfcare Challenges. Self-care is definitely trending it being with cheerleaders and naysayers. I have read a few articles where people gave it a thumbs down. One piece it is not viable for a solution for people of color and the most recent article said it wasn't solving the problem mothers face. I don't agree. In both articles, they focused on the commercialized version of self-care- massages, pedicures, things of that nature. It also was viewing self-care under a one size fits all. Here is what I have found in my personal self-care journey. The practices that bring the most impact are not the ones that require you to swipe a credit card. It should be individualized and personalized. Also, we don't do enough of it. Self-care for someone who suffers from depression can look like brushing their teeth, taking a shower and getting out of bed. Self-care for a mother could be asking for help and taking off her superheroes cape. Self-care for men could find a space to be vulnerable and express fears, doubts, and sadness. Self-care for a lot of us can be taking a social media break because vicarious trauma is a real thing or flexing our "No" muscle more. Self-care is self-preservation, therefore, we ALL need it. It allows us to grow stronger in self-love. How are you practicing self-care these days? Join me for the next session of #100DaysofSelfcare April 1st.
