I had more training this morning at Disney University for Welcome to Food and Beverage. We watched some more training videos and did an online module. And then they sent us over to MK costuming to get our work shoes. I stressed and stressed and picked a pair of size 9 laced black shoes (the other option was unlaced, which seemed like it could be good or could be impossible to get my foot into). There’s a little room left at the toes and I’m going to switch over my orthotics and they should work out just fine.
Then I went home and I met my newest (and hopefully last) new roommate who will be living in the top bunk over my bed. She flew in from I believe Colorado and her mom and sister are staying for the week and heading home on Saturday. She had casting today as well as check in, but so far I only know that she’s quick service just like the rest of us.
I hung out at home for a little bit, tried to get in contact with Mrs. Bergeron about hosting NJCL 2019 in Minnesota at the U of M (because I think St. Olaf would be too small and they don’t have air conditioned dorms). Then I got right back on the A bus and took it to Contemporary Resort. I was convinced for some reason that I was going to the Grand Floridian. I don’t know why I thought that, but I was a little bit underwhelmed with the lobby after hearing great things about the Grand Floridian, but I got on the monorail to Magic Kingdom and after about two stops it said “Now approaching Grand Floridian” and I was like, no, because that’s where I came from and we can’t circle all the way around without hitting MK. I don’t think it even hit me that I was at Contemporary until I was in the parks.
Once I was in MK, I went into Tomorrowland and saw the Carousel of Progress and crossed my fingers that it would be a carousel. It is not, in fact, a carousel, but rather a moving show with animatronics and it was super cool, just not what I’d been envisioning when I went inside.
Then I went out of Tomorrowland and over to Fantasy Land to try to find Be Our Guest. On the way (and also I was lost and had no idea where I or anything else was at that point), I popped in to the Mad Tea Party ride because there was a super short line and I thought, “why not?” I ended up in a tea cup with a mom and daughter from Washington state (but the desert part, not the green part), and it was a lot of fun. It was surprisingly short, though, so I may have to ride it again.
The only other ride I wanted to ride on was It’s a Small World, but I got there only to discover that it is currently undergoing maintenance and is unable to be ridden. So that was a bummer, but I moved on anyways to try to find Be Our Guest.
I found the entrance to BOG, but there was a bridge to cross to get to the castle, so I just moved on and I ended up instead in Gaston’s Tavern and I got a chocolate croissant (which was delicious), and the Cast Member gave me two because one didn’t have a lot of chocolate on it, and I was like “do I look like someone who needs two chocolate croissants? or like i have friends with which to share? no.” And there was no way to save one, so I ended up eating them both (which made me feel a little bit ill, but in a manageable way). I also got a LeFou’s Brew, which is frozen apple juice with something else in it (non-alcoholic of course) and mango flavored foam on top. The apple part was great, the mango part slightly less so, but it reminded me of the $1 apple cider popsicles at the MN state fair and it made me miss the state fair. (as well as ren fest, which WDW is also somewhat reminiscent of - fantasy land especially).
After that, I’d been in the parks for about an hour and a half, and I was exhausted (I’d been pass out tired on the bus over already, but I’d ignored it in favor of excitement about going to MK) and super hot and really sweaty and gross. And I was getting dehydrated (as always), but in Florida it’s too hot to be casually dehydrated like I got away with in MN. So I headed for the exit (and got sidetracked by brief 5:30 fireworks at Cindy’s castle and a parade down Mainstreet USA) and I took the monorail back over to Contemporary and made my way to the bus stop. Then I checked and double checked the online arrival time because the bus stop had no shade and I was hot and tired and dehydrated and I didn’t feel better until I got onto the AC cooled bus, and hoped no one sat right next to me and had to deal with my sweat smell.
I ate dinner when I got home and watched the last half of Meet the Robinsons (which is a movie that I love and will be eternally sad that it doesn’t get enough credit in the parks - also the Rescuers Down Under and its lack of an attraction/cart/restaurant). Then I Google Hangouted (which didn’t work) and eventually Facetime audio’d home, which was really nice. Everyone was home, including Frodo, and it was a little bit like being home myself, but in the sense that I didn’t actually have to live at home, which is of course the struggley bit of living at home after living on your own for any amount of time.
I’m still working on Richard III, and I still don’t love Shakespeare. I’ve ordered most of my books (except for Psych, because it is suspiciously not on the online class books required list), and I’ve ordered new moisturizer and also chocolate chips from target (and, you guessed it, marshmallows of the small and colorful variety). I have a package at Housing Services, but I didn’t get a chance today to get it, so I’ll have to try again tomorrow. :/ Ah well, you can only do so much in one single day.
