VERSE OF THE DAY: MATTHEW 6:33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and life righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
SEEK THIS FIRST There are plenty of things that fight for our attention. Our time and schedules get filled with people and responsibilitiesāeach with their own needs and urgency.
In Jesusā famous sermon in Matthew 6, He spends time talking about the various things in life that we give our attention to. Jesus tells us that instead of spending our time worrying about our basic desires in life, we should seek His Kingdom and His righteousness. If we do that, then everything else will be taken care of.
So what does it mean to seek Godās kingdom and Godās righteousness?
Godās kingdom is about Godās rule and reign over all of creation. His kingdom began in Jesusā ministry on earth and is now expanding and continuing through the Church. The work of the kingdom is to continue to tell others about the hope of Jesus, and to teach all the things Jesus has commanded us.
To seek Godās righteousness is to desire to live the way God intended. It is to live according to Godās commands, which requires that we make decisions that align with Godās Word.
Jesus says that if we do these two thingsāseek Godās kingdom and His righteousnessāthen every other area of our life will make sense. When we donāt prioritize Godās desires for our life first, then we will end up worrying about things that are temporary.
Living a life according to Godās Word ought to be our greatest priority, because Godās Kingdom will last forever.
Think about how you spend your time. Do you worry about things that are outside of your control? Consider how you can live for Godās kingdom rather than the things of earth. In what ways can you reprioritize your life in order to seek righteousness? Rather than worrying about things in life you canāt control, pray for God to meet your needs.
BE ENCOURAGED Today, instead of worrying about the things that are our of your control, trust the One who holds everything together.
SHARE YOUR FAITH When seeking God becomes your top priority, a desire to tell others about Him will naturally overflow.
God, I want to seek You and Your kingdom first everyday. Please forgive me for the times I've neglected Your presence and provision. Thank You for never giving up on me. I want You to be a part of every thought I have, every word I say, and every decision I make. My life is Yours. In Jesus' name, Amen.
