So you say the Sugar Bowl is empty. That may be true for the main sugar bowl (the VFD legend one) but there is quite obviously another sugar bowl - Esme Squalor's, which cannot be empty - otherwise why woulld she make such a big deal about it? what was in the Sugar bowl that Beatrice stole from Esme?
Whether there is 1 or several sugar bowls is actually a matter of controversy. Although I’ve argued about that over the years (Link), I now feel fairly confident that the sugar bowl everyone in V.F.D. is looking for and the sugar bowl Beatrice stole from Esme are indeed one and the same. The possible reasons why Esme’s feud relates to VFD’s own obsession is explained in the theory (Link) although we haven’t got definitive evidence.
It’s possible, however, that normal sugar bowls were mistaken for “the” sugarl bowl at some point. This would explain why volunteers avoid putting sugar in their tea/coffee, for example (to avoid confusion and misinformation).
