I was grasping for familiarity, and my thoughts kept echoing your name.
at farrington on tuesday, we were doing across the floors. not much different from our other practice days. but on this particular day, syd, one of my students with autism, came to practice, and he had a different skills trainer than he usually does. she was the FIRST one of his skills trainers to ever get up and try to help him dance with us. like normally syd holds his own, which is awesome. i've had him since he was in 6th grade, so i know how he operates, and i know that he doesn't necessarily care about getting everything right, he just likes coming to practice and having fun with the rest of us. cheeeee! but anyway, back to the skills trainer. it was clear that she had dance training and experience before because she knew all of the french terms i was talking about. and she was able to demonstrate to syd the things that he needed to know. not only that, she was wearing skinny jeans and boots, and she was still dancing! not many skills trainers would get up and dance with syd, let alone get up and dance with him IN SKINNY JEANS AND BOOTS. i had mad respect for her. anyway, when we were done with class, we were packing up and everything, and she pulled me on the side and asked me where i danced. and i told her i used to dance for 24-7 DanceForce when i was younger, and then i was a dancer for Kamehameha. and she actually told me that i was really good. don't get me wrong, i have confidence as a dancer. but more as a hip hop dancer. i didn't really get that many compliments before on my ability to dance jazz and other technique related styles of dance. but that meant a lot to me. it really did.

There will be good days. There will be many good days.
And then there will be days when you really can't find the silver lining in anything. Days when it will be hard to find strength. Days when you wake up in the morning and instantly sigh in disappointment at the fact that you are simply alive.
There will be many good days. And many days of the second type.
Today was a day of the second type.
But I must keep my chin up. I must be extraordinary and I must live an extraordinary life.
I must carpe diem, and carpe that diem with all the strength that I can find, no matter how little that strength may be.
It's all good and nice to be able to be extraordinary on the good days. But being able to find the strength and perseverance to be extraordinary on the bad days is a true test of character.
And my character has been tested more than I find desirable, lately.
when i get like this, all blurry-visioned and leaky eyes, i really miss my brother. not because he ever knew what to say, he's a boy...but because he knew what to do. he knew to sit on my bed with me, hand me an earbud, and he'd play music on his phone for us while we'd just sit there in silence.
he always knew.
can i go home yet? please.
