ultra cool makoto fan voice. to me her decision to become a cop to reform it from the inside is rooted in naive intentions that wholly ignore any signs that contradict the possibility of it being dead on arrival as a goal. she is blinded by the person she idolizes in her father, who had to give his life in order to do some good within the force.
what she's seen the police do to the phantom thieves + especially joker only motivate her, albeit in the wrong direction, to fix the system. she is the kind of character who, even if given outside insistence that it is the wrong decision, is so stubborn that she is near incapable of turning back.
while the original game itself does not present it as a flaw that makes her nuanced, i see great potential in this for her character. strikers essentially puts this all on the table as if it IS a flaw though, before turning back on itself a little so as to not make too drastic a change in her character.
persona 5 tries to tell us through this that it's admirable to believe so hard in something that you never give up, even if every warning sign is against you. but some things are far too complex to work so simply with that as your ideal.
