HOW HAS YOUR CHARA DEVELOPED FROM THEIR ORIGINAL CONCEPT?
PART ONE. what thing(s) initially inspired your character? i made pluto my last semester of college when i was feeling stressed and inadequate b/c i didn’t get amazing grades and didn’t have internships or networking. i wanted to write a character to not just escape those anxious feelings but to settle them. at the time, the daydream of leaving the hustle and bustle of city/modern life behind and becoming a shepherd felt so? relieving?? like, the idea of just getting to be a shepherd was a happy fantasy to me so? why not??? make it into a fantasy story? also!!! tbqh brogan’s jakob @reichandwrong def had an influence on me in regard to writing/creating a forgiving, accepting, gentle, sensitive (in the sense of how a bruise is sensitive) character with a kind of kindness that is translatable to yourself and anyone who is reading.
PART TWO. how has their personality developed from their first concept? i don’t remember having any concept of what their personality would be like. pluto’s personality came the most naturally and easily to me, more than any other character i’ve made. ya know, i originally thought they were a more distant and mysterious figure and then i went and made them the outgoing, personable, charming Gay Pride Santa. so! that really threw me for a loop in the best way possible.
PART THREE. how has their appearance developed from their first incarnation? it hasn’t changed too much. rose leslie is... perf for pluto b/c her expressions and way of moving are just so spot on. outfit wise their appearance has def changed! i now like to imagine pluto wearing thick, knitted wool sweaters 24/7 (knit by pluto themselves and the wool is from their sheep).
PART FOUR. what do you think most makes your character unique? idk! there are two things i hope for. 1. pluto’s ambience. the content way they live and feel. the way they always spin ways to think in their crafty way of talking. 2. that their disorder (ocd) and orientations (asexual biromantic; intersex and intergender) aren’t the main and guiding/only feature of their story. these things are undeniably present and have influence, but they’re not what the story or pluto is about. and they’re not there to show you how bad or hard or awful being any of those things are. it’s the opposite. it’s to show the mundaneness, the simple normal-ness in the life of a person who is these things.
