The reason why I'm so so so obsessed with that one picture of Christina Koch looking out the window at Earth is specifically because of her braid floating in full view, silhouetted by the light and the Earth.
Because braids and plaits are so prevalent across our entire existence. Countless cultures have historically developed some way of weaving hair in a uniformed manner completely independently from one another. The styling and the number of strands and the addition of extra strands varies of course but a three-strand braid is the most common variation and it still stands that they're an incredible commonality across cultures.
That is why I love that picture so very much. Because it's something so quintessentially human being brought up to space.
A kinda messy braid drifting in zero gravity, captured with the entire view of our planet behind it and the angle of her face to look up at our home, up at us, is somehing so beautiful to me that I can't fully capture it into words.
